If by boxer you mean someone who prioritizes defense before offense then JMM is a boxer. Also the version of Barrera that Pac beat in 07 was a boxer. Ledwaba was also a boxer. Sasakul was also a boxer.
Floyd is a combination of both, Floyd Sr. For defense, And Roger Mayweather for offense...see people forget where boxing started from... Boxing was originaly from the idea of who is the strongest, HOw hard can you punch, and how hard of a punch can you take...to box is to get hitand if get hit can you take it.. So this question is realy should be ." Has Manny ever been with a Slick boxer..?" and the answer to that is NO.. a boxer yes . a slick boxer no... but here is the thing about Floyd he needs to set his feet to Punch, yes he is fast but when he gets set up. How ever Manny can Punch at a weird angle , so weird that the body position is very unlikely the punch that you would expect, What Manny has an edge with in this fight would be his power in both hands , coming from weird angles, not having to set his feet... with an in & out movement... how floyd pulls this fight off well that to be seen...
I think this thread is not about the Boxer , but colour , only my opinion but Morales is technically one of the best boxers in the past 10 years , has Manny fought any Black fighters we could call boxers ??? no but if he fought mosley he fights more mexican than black . What this thread wants is to see why Manny hasn fought Black fighters , and that is mainly because they are not strong in the lower weight classes . 147 and up they are Stronger. We don have any Pernells or Taylors in the lower classes anymore , and its a shame.
I disagree with calling Cotto a boxer. Cotto definitely has the ability to box, but I think that calling him a "boxer" is misleading. We saw in the Mosley fight that Cotto can box (and well) if necessary, but it's a secondary skill set, not the primary one.
Sasakul, Ledwaba(was being reffered to as the slick south african at the time), MAB(technically a very good boxer, just ask Hamed), JMM is a counterpuncher and one of the best, infact before his Pac fights he fought a lot more defensively, Morales fought as a counterpuncher in their first fight and was very good at it, ODLH's jab couldnt even touch Pac, Cotto outboxed Clottey, Mosley & Judah... Pac has never fought an elite runner or a slickster if thats what you mean. Floyd has never fought anyone remotely close to Pac either. Evens things out...
Morales was a boxer. So was Marquez. Morales was no brawler. He could if he wanted to, and did so a few times in the Pac fight. But he was a boxer, a brilliant technician. Now has he fought someone as athletic and defensively masterful as Mayweather? No. But has Mayweather fought someone like Pac? No. So really its new ground for both.
Judah was the closest to Pac Floyd has fought. Judah had his moments in the fight, but, Floyd eventually figured it out and coasted to victory. This one of things I believe Floyd will beat Pac because Floyd is an excellent counter puncher. Judah thought he could ko Floyd when his quick flurries, but, Floyd just countered him beautifully.
No he's basically fought over 50 toughman contestants. Pac will be lost in there when they get in the ring.
Its amazing how easily Judah was landing his right hooks and left hand in the first few rounds of that fight. I said Pac beats PBF, my bro thought PBF beats Pac, he rewatched PBF-Judah and changed his mind. It showed how ineffective Floyd was too in going on the offensive, he kept trying the lead right which just failed over and over again. Judah showed a good account of himself in that fight. Floyd figured him out or maybe Judah just broke down, couldnt keep up and Floyd took over last 8 rounds. Now Judah does a lot of things better than Pac, Pac does a lot of things better than Judah but that fight gives me some confidence in a Pac win.
Should've just changed the title to: has manny ever been in with a "floyd mayweather jr." Don't complicate life.
