Let's put up Whitaker against Floyd's opponents:

Does Whitaker lose more than 3 rounds to ANYONE Floyd has fought? (And please don't say DLH becuase if a prime Whitaker faced a past prime DLH, DLH would NOT win more than three rounds.)

Now let's put up Floyd against Whitaker's opponents.

Does he beat the Chavez Whitaker fought? I'd say it's a close fight, could go either way. Prime for Prime, I'd say Chavez wins, but he was a little past his absolute best when Whitaker fought him.

Does he beat a prime DLH? I thought DLH beat Floyd by a point, so I don't see Floyd beating a better version of DLH. I thought Whitaker edged DLH by a point whe he was past his prime. A prime Whitaker decisons him clearly, though not one-sidedly.

Does he beat Azumah Nelson at lightweight? Probably, but it would be a lot closer than the Nelson-Whitaker blowout.

Does he beat Julio Cesar Vasquez? Vasquez was huge, and could cause some real problems for Floyd. Floyd maybe edges it.

Does he beat Buddy McGirt? Perhaps, in a close fight, but Buddy was no joke, he had good speed and good defense, and would definitely trouble Mayweather with his jab abd right hand.

Does he beat Tito? I say no but it would be close. However if he was past his prime to the extent Whitaker was, Floyd probably gets ko'ed.

He needs to beat Cotto and Williams and I want to see Vernon Forrest or Maybe Winky at 154 clean those guys out to me and you have the chance to be the best of this generation of course that depends on what Paquiao does against Marquez. A Marquez win is greater than a Hatton win in my book. Remember PAC has his challenges too with Juan Diaz. Its still early

Slight change of topic, but I make Marquez the favourite in that fight considering he won the first outing.

I think Floyd can surpass Whitaker, but he still has a couple of big fights to go, at least. Floyd's got similar skills to Whitaker, but he also has power, which may make the difference.

Floyd is great, he has done everything asked of him but Pernell was something else.. I love both for different reasons, but in a face off.. Whittaker would probably lead 7 out of 10... Still some challenges yet for Floyd, Hatton had a lot of heart but still a naturally smaller guy , brave nonthe less.. Cotto is the next question for PBF.. I get the feeling that Mayweather isn't staying around much longer.......

azumah nelson was a natural featherweight who fought only once at lightweight whitaker took him to school but if you dont give fmj much credit for thrashing ajunio-welter hatton dont give whitaker much credit nelson.personally i think they were both great wins

So I guess you saw the Whitaker/Chavez fight a draw too then. I bet you thought he lost to Ramirez the first time as well.

Mayweather was down in the 1st, Whitaker was down in the 9th.
Roger was competitive with Sweet Pea. That doesn't mean anything necessarily, but it doesn't mean less than saying Pernell wouldn't have lost more than a couple rounds rounds to anyone Floyd has fought.

So you're saying that Whitaker having a competitive fight with Roger Mayweather in his 12th fight is about as relevant to assenssing Whitaker's greatness in comparison to Mayweather's as is the proposition that Whitaker would not have lost more than 3 rounds to any Mayweather opponent?

    Good point :good

    Winky can't make 154 anymore.

He's been figting at 160 (or above) since 2005, when Floyd was ending his campaign at 140 and going up to 147.

I think it's clear that it's a close contest between Mayweather and Whitaker. Some say Mayweather is better, some say Whitaker is better.

Is Mayweather greater than Roy Jones?

Jones' only two good names in his resume are Toney and Virgil Hill. Hopkins was green. The rest of his resume is not good....like if Floyd would have fought Henry Brussels his whole career.
