What the hell is a P4P fighter? If you mean in the consensus top ten or something of that nature then he clearly WAS at one time. And what makes a great? I read his fans on here making fair comments, overall pretty balanced. But the likes of you talk hate fuelled nonsense about the guy. And then claim it's his supporters who can't see the reality. Bizarre.
Was, but shouldn't have been. I could see it for a short period after Tszyu, but he didn't build on that success and at which point I kicked his ass off, because there were too many questionable factors in that fight A great has a top resume and skillset And yes, this is all my opinion. This is what we do on on forums, bless your little heart :yep
Must admit my love for Hatton is waning slightly - speaking in the third person is a disgusting trait. To be honest now he is obviously earning such huge money the little lad from Stockport bollocks is wearing a bit thin. The whole family man thing is equally a bit grating...In my opinion other people call you a great family man you don't have a Sky crew follow you around and stage scenes in "At Home with the Hattons". Having said that, before he started getting his arse-licked by everyone in the pre-Mayweather build up, Hatton was extremely likeable. It is this Hatton that won such die-hard support. If he beats Malignaggi few can deny he has been the best specialist Light-Welterweight of the last 10 years (exclude the likes of Mayweather and Cotto who have settled at other weights). If he beats Pacman...what could you say? Having been so comprehensively beaten by PBF and having failed to achieve significant success at different weights I would argue he has no claim to P4P greatness but it would be harsh to keep him out of the top 10 just for one loss against the great modern talent!
No chance. Tszyu was levels above him at his peak. Beating an old version with the help of Parris and cheating tactics does little convince he is infact better. It was still very close too.
Hatton was The Rings fighter of the year for 2005 and in pretty much everyones P4P list 2005 to 2007, he must have been doing something right?
Wasn't anywhere near mine in 2007. I remember quite a few others who didn't have him either. He hasn't been doing **** to deserve it since Tszyu. Only so long you can live off a solitary past glory.
Prime for prime I'd take Zoo to beat Hatton but Hatton beat an old Zoo in a tough, rough fight executing the gameplan that every hater on here said he wouldn't be able to. Sticking close to Zoo so as not give him leverage for his right hand, roughing him up and making the 36 year old fight 3 minutes for each round. He managed to carry out the plan and prove people wrong so they changed tack after the fight and call it cheating rather than just admit they were wrong.
As far as I'm concerned there is no place for the word "close" when a fighter retires on his stool. When there is a decision, yes there can be close even when there is a knockout you could say it was a lucky punch and therefore close-ish(!). But when a fighter stops because he can't take anymore I wouldn't say that was close. On a seperate matter I don't think Hatton's CV is anywhere near as bad as you're making out. Tackie, Maussa, Castillo, Urango, Oliveira, Collazo, Tsyzu, Phillips and slightly iffy but Lazcano have all been in the upper echelons of the weight division!
Was in most peoples top 5 pre-Mayweather and obviously recorded another two decent wins besides Zoo in 2005 for The Ring to recognize him as Fighter of the Year. His record since the Zoo fight stacks up well against pretty much any active world class fighter.
I think I'll take Tszyu's Mitchell (x2), Judah and Urkal over old Tszyu, shot Castillo and garbage like Maussa/Urango. He won his fights in better style, fought away from home no less than 13 times He beat Judah more convincingly than ANYONE. Better than Cotto or Mayweather could manage. He beat a closer to prime Urkal better than Cotto He beat Gonzalez as well as De La Hoya, it was brutal This is the level Tszyu fought at near his peak. Hatton is noway near.
A lot of it isn't top 10 worthy. In the last couple of years Hatton has beaten horribly shot Castillo, limited Urango, JUST beat a fringe top 10 welter in Collazo Yet we were supposed to rank him above a Kessler, who beat Andrade, Mundine, Beyer without dropping rounds? Or Dawson, who beat Harding and Adamek convincingly? Even Haye, KTFO Fragomeni, Mormeck, Enzo There were more deserving candidates not in the top 10. Both on recent wins and skillset.
Revisionism. Rampant on the internet but nonetheless utter crap. Nothing to suggest Castillo was horribly shot. You've already had your 'never p4p' statement exposed as gross exaggeration. Now saying Hatton doesn't beat prime Tszyu is disingenuous; that's not the point you were pulled on is it? Prime Tszyu is possibly an ATG Light welter. And 'skillset' - another meaningless argument. The only way to judge a skillset is on the results it gets you. By definition. Hatton has only lost to the undisputed best fighter on the planet. You make out like he's a club fighter. That's patently untrue. It's clear who is letting their personal bias cloud their judgement here.
what do you mean Castillo wasn't considered shot? You must be having a laugh. Hatton didn't face 1 top 10 contender at 140 before he fought Tszyu. He won that with a combination of facing a guy in semi-retirement, cheating and a helpful ref. He's still riding off the back of that, and has beat **** all since to be deserving on a p4p tag. He's the biggest sham in the sport. it's ridiculous how many of you guys had him in your top 10 British fighters of all time.....utter joke.
Castillo wasn't shot? That's why he didn't do ANYTHING since, got beat in a lot of peoples eyes by the unheralded Ngoudjo prior, and even failed to make weight numerous times recently, a classic sign? Hatton ruined him right? Take the blinkers off son.
