but how many fighters are on the level of pac and pbf around that weight? none. that hardly makes you a fraud. how many fighters achieve what he has and retire with only 2 losses, let alone the losses only coming from 2 of the best fighters of this generation, and possibly all time.
So I guess Hatton and his fans are going to just hang their hats on that one fight forever. Maybe we should forget about the rest of Buster Douglas' career and put him into the HOF based on his fight with Tyson.
Sign out. Im tired of you part time jockeys that come in here after a Hatton loss to give your worthless 2 pennys.
6/10 for your attempt to duck the question, but that is a clear fail. You're the fraud, Reg...and we all know it...after all, you're the guy who's picking Froch to beat Kessler only because you don't like the idea of most of us thinking Kessler would have a good shot at beating your man, Bad Chad. Pathetic.
Thats the crux of the matter here. A fighters career isnt defined by one fight. Its defined by the quality of his opposition. Who he fought and when he fought them and what belts were at stake. Tapes dont lie and neither does Hattons career ledger. Some are more than happy to ignore Hattons WBU days and then concentrate soley on everything post Tsyzu as though it has massive amounts of merit. A linear 4 year champ who NEVER faced the BEST challengers in his division but instead fought Paulie one of the worst belt holders in 140lbs history who is/was a non puncher with hand troubles since youth? What kind of BS title reign is that supposed to be when he then gets completely humiliated by a former Featherweight and a former flyweight who were alledgely "smaller" men? What kind of credibility can you attribute to a fighter who couldnt even beat 2 men that were divisions below him but moved up in weight? And yet he couldnt face a solid welter or 140lb'der but instead gave us guys we'd never heard of in Urango and former lightweight who was retired Lazcano? So yes internet dorks we may be but if and when that time does arise and Hatton is considered the evidence will not lie as it was plain as day. Popularity is NOT a prerequisite for greatness. The sooner the idiots here realise the better.
FACT: Hatton was never a European Champ. He refused to face Otkay Urkal when he was Urkals madatory and Urkal was undefeated. As for lineal so what. Buster Douglas was Lineal. So was Shannon Briggs. Neither man will make canastota and neither will Hatton. Lineal means nothing when the opposition in the other corner has one foot in retirement.
May I ask, what is wrong with boxers outside of Europe (which my geographically challenged friend includes the UK)
The thing is this: even if Hatton were just a fraud, who's been managed very carefully, who's ducked all the top fighters in his time and who picked on a past-it Tszyu to make himself look legit when he clearly wasn't, you CANNOT ignore his borderline-elite level performance on that night against that version of Tszyu. If he had KOed Tszyu with a lucky punch, then you might have a case that he just got lucky Buster Douglas style...but he didn't...he made him quit...so, he's clearly a better fighter than just a "world class" level fighter, EVEN if he only performed at that level once. Once is enough. He scaled a height that a world class fighter simply couldn't have done. Bottom line. Everything else is just hype...and hate.
Fair enough that he was. But "World champ" is quite a subjective word these days considering WHO he won these World titles from. Apart from Kostya the rest dont matter.
i criticised hatton from the start, predicted an early ko loss BUT... he lost to the two best boxers of the last 20 yrs ffs - give him a break. Pacquiao is on his way to being one of the greatest ever - Hatton won't ever have the chance to get in the ring with someone as fast ad powerful as pacquiao, even if he wanted to. Hatton showed that he can still rule the 140lbs division, just not with floyd and pac in it. don't over analyse an admittedly brutal loss to a truly spectacular talent - Hatton was a sitting duck for an assassin in the form of his life.
He got the Zoo win......but to call it a borderline elite level performance.....What he did to that man was cobra-cluch, octopus squeezing, hold to death rapeathon that was on such a sadist savage level. The low blow he threw in there was ugly and sick. I don't know how that could be called elite level performance. He might as well tied Zoo's hands to the ropes and had his way with him that way.
