I agree 100% that Hatton got heart. I love his style and charisma but since he is fighting Pac Im on the other side examining his flaws. When I researched his fight record on boxingrec.com I notice his resume was IMO "well managed."
Check it out Hatton was whoopn his ass and got stunned. The they tak all this time out to help him. I dont think Hatton needed the help. But to me it taints the win. This content is protected
The referee has a duty to ensure that laces are tied, tape around the glove is secure etc...its not as though Hatton untied the lace himself. The incident only taints the win in the eyes of people who have axes to grind against Hatton. For the record, I do not for one minute think that Hatton is anywhere near international ATG status, however he is certainly not hype.
so if hatton was well hyped and well managed then why was he put into the ring against tszyu??was he the weakest champ he could face?
Hatton was thought to be a fighter that Tsyzu could take care of because he was a name fighter, but smaller and with shorter arms than Kostya. If you don't remember, that fight was quite a big upset. It made ESPN at number one on the top ten that day and for the week I believe, which was surprising because boxing is rarely on ESPN's top ten lists, especially if there's no KO. Hatton became big much bigger overnight after that win.
with all due respect...Tsyzu never fought afterwards. How do we know if he wasnt shot by then? How do we gauge the win. Ricky Hatton is A good fighter. Great no...Hyped yes...We can agree to disagree...no problem there...
thats my point wasnt there an easier option for hatton if he was that well managed to win a portion of the title?? He was 2/1 to win the fight on the night m8:good
No, you make a great point, I was kind of agreeing with you. I don't believe it can be claimed that Hatton is a "well managed" fighter. There's a difference between not having too many big name victories, and being well managed because he's taken some tough fights, if you ask me. Additionally, anyone that actually seeks out Floyd Mayweather to fight isn't exactly someone that is looking for easy fights, ya know
Hatton has really grown on me. He definately a ballsy fighter, and funny as hell sometimes. And what the **** is wrong with Subway? Sheeee-it, meatball sub on wheat with shredded cheese. That's what the **** I'm talkin' about.:yep
Too much Hatton hatred here. He's only lost once, to Floyd Mayweather of all people! Get real! It's easy to say Kostya Tsyzu and Jose Luis Castillo were shot, but there was plenty of people picking them before the fight. I dont deny that they were both past their prime, but neither of them were Roy Jones Jr shot or Mike Tyson post-Lewis shot like you guys make out. Knocking out two bona-fide legends and keeping an undisputed title for 4 years, not some WBO piece of **** the real title, is a GREAT achievement, and it's achievements that become a legacy one day. Hatton's standard of competition is high and he deserves recongition for that. When he was a Frank Warren prospect in Britain all those years ago he got flak for his opposition, but since the Kostya Tszyu victory all of his opponents have been world-class, minimum top 10 in their respective divisions. The only exception to this has been Lazcano, and that's down to the fact Hatton was coming off his first defeat and pretty reasonable in my opinion. Americans love giving European fighters stick for the standard of fighter they face and for playing it safe in by fighting in Europe, but Ricky Hatton has fought top guys and outside the UK. He's sold out Las Vegas by himself and he's just fought at Madison Square Garden. 30,000 people went to see him fight Mayweather and in the process created one of the most memorable nights in Boxing history. It was the biggest fight of 2007 bar none. That makes him a great in my considered opinion.
I agree with your analysis here but none of this amounts to him being 'hype'. His popularity is huge, but that is just because the British really get behind their boxers. My view of Hatton is that he is a guy who hasn't really had the chance to prove himself. He has reigned over a fairly weak 140lb division, but he has done everything he has had to do, and a loss to Mayweather doesnt mean anything except he is not as good as Mayweather. His resume is weak but who was he supposed to fight? He really hasn't had that much opportunity. Perhaps he should have stepped it up earlier than Tszyu is his 35th fight or whatever, but since then, he really hasnt had that many opportunities.
