If you use strength of resume as the primary determination of a fighters greatness alone than you cannot rate Hatton as that great of a fighter and more hype. If however he beats pac and then avenges his defeat to Mayweather he rises significantly. Hatton is one of those guys that his popularity really enhances his status though so I give this some recognition. For me he is right on the cusp of greatness.
He fought a well past it welterweight when Hatton fought the p4p top welterweight in a hard 10 round fight. If Hatton trains as hard for this one with the same trainer Mayweather sr he could lash out a good beating on Pacquiao.
Hatton is definately a great fighter. One loss against a phenomenal fighter out of his ideal weightclass doesnt make him a hype.
He's the best at 140 today. I don't and won't conseder Pacquaio a 140 lbs boxer intell he has a fight at the weight. He may not be the best ever or as good as his fans make him out to be but he is not hype.
100% hype, if Hatton was born in America, he would never of made it out of the clubs, it was only his ability to sell tickets that made him a name.
I have never heard such a load of rubbish in my life! Watch the Joe Hutchinson, Michael Stewart and Ray Oliveira fights to see what Hatton does to clubfighters. Guys like Tszyu, Malignaggi, Lazcano etc... made it out of the clubs just fine and watch what Hatton did to them!
