Nope. The lords are given their position for life, however they serve merely as a regulatory body, rejecting any outlandish laws that an extreme governemnt wishes to pass. They can be overruled by the commons (the elected government) but Blair was the first Prime Minister to actually use that power. Ordinarily they'd simply curb the excesses of any particular government rather than deciding anybodys fate.

Our government is elected and far more representative than the one derived from your electoral college system.

I like the randomness of the posts one minute were on about hatton being a wrestler, then it goes to national pride and governments, back to hatton and then finish on joe calazaghe whether he slaps or not.

I'm from the U.S., I think it's great boxing is popular internationally because it's not doing well here. There's no press unless it's a mega fight. Face it, boxing needs the international market or else it will fade away. I believe, if we didn't have great euro fighters (Great fan bases) right now, boxing may have died permanently in the U.S..

Kinda like Tony Benn - pretty straightforward, no bullsh*t kinda guy. Rare in this age of fake Game Theory practitioners.

Strictly speaking, the Queen can abolish parliament if they get on her nerves too much aswell as a few other dirty tricks. Guantanamo or The Tower Of London... I'd pick Guantanamo. :D

It can't be that bad. I mean my dad went to the fight in vegas and he could not believe that the brits were outnumbering americans he said it was unbelievable. What is football like there now (soccer) supported with the introduction of beckham?

I like the lords. They may be a bunch of toffs, but they're largely sensible toffs that throw out most nonsense that the commons sends their way. Without them, compulsory ID cards, and other such nonsense, would already be with us.

It was Blair that made a mess of it all with his willingness to overturn the Lords' decisions and his making peers of anybody that wanted to give him pocket money.

I think right now, the US has to concentrate on much bigger things for a while - 7% of your MLB players on drugs? Even if they whittle it down to 1%, that's still a scary number of fiends you have there.

I bet Zimm was just coming down from a hit when he ran at Pedro a few years ago... fine footwork by Pedro - he'd make a good boxer. :)

  I know mate. I love boxing. I also think about the world ASIDE from myself and realize things need to change. It's quite interesting the symbolism boxing plays into our life. Battle of the minds, Battle of the braun, The struggle for victory whether its 1 man or 1 million men. Cheers:good

Well its the government who's the ***** not our contrymen. I mean i don't like the royal family well i do like the Royle family the brits on here will get the pun. I mean with a monarchy it makes us unique anyway its like a republic because government make all the decisions it just protocol when the queen signs the royal assent and the state opening of parliament.
