Hatton could have avoided it though if he would have ducked with his guard as opposed to dropping his arm, and honestly I think he was 100% sure after hearing the 10 second timer that he would survive the round.

It was an unexpected punch and Hatton was too relaxed, and it cost him.

But yeah, I saw a boxing match begin to break out because Hatton's punches were having an effect on Pac, especially when Hatton got rough with him and threw elbows and used his strength to bully him around.

Bottom line, Hatton showed heart to last as long as he did. I just can't say he was "competitive".

That term to me involves real "give and take", and there was virtually none in this fight.

This is more ridiculous than one guy claiming Floyd jr. was exposed in the first round of the Angel Manfredy fight. Jeez.

Pacquiao landed as many punches as Hatton has thrown.

The fight was no where near competitive.

You can never really play the "what if" game when it comes to boxing. What happens happens. Every mistake Hatton made is part of the fight. Same with everything Pac did right.

In general, though, I've always regarded early KO's as not necessarily indicative of the quality of the guy who got KO'd.

For example, I considered Pac's performance against Oscar as a "systematic breakdown of his opponent." Oscar had the opportunity to assess his faulty fight plan and adjust, but nothing worked. The fight was one-sided the whole way through.

Hatton/Pac was over so fast it's hard to call it a "systematic breakdown" of Hatton. He got KTFO too fast.

All that said, Hatton ought to retire. He has a bad habit of reverting to a no-defense mauler, and he's been seriously hurt in 3-4 fights. He should call it a day.

No,but he's saying that it could have developed into becoming competitive.
I wish Hatton hadnt been caught with 7 seconds to go as we would at least found out if he was starting to readjust and gradually get a foothold in the fight ala JMM.
Maybe, maybe not,but it would have been interesting to find out.

i hope your joking here. Hatton should retire. Hes lifestyle outside the ring-mixed with hes ability to eat punches is not a good recipe

Yeah, and then he dusted himself off and proceeded to give Pacquiao a boxing lesson for the majority on the next 11 rounds.

Hatton on the other hand got demolished in just the second round. There is no comparison here.
