Silly you. You didn't really believe Ricky Hatton believed he could beat Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas, did you? He just wanted a bit of attention in that interview with Max at the T&M Center in late June. He sounded casually offhand with the throwaway remark about who entertains the most. It was anything but a breeze of fresh air after the Urango & Collazo fights and he was not prepared or tempted to consider the position of fighting Mayweather if somebody chased him and begged. Hatton's handlers flaterred to deceive, but all they really wanted to do was to see his name linked with Mayweather's in a country where his reputation was in doubt. He even tried to say no at the start... But why bother when you can get weeks, months of good publicity like in 24/7 and pressers all ovah? As soon as the WBC commission gave thumbs up for the fight, Floyd's team were eager to call his bluff, the game was up! Des Kelly of The Daily Mail refers to the fight as "10 spetacularly effective rounds. Floyd Mayweather demonstrated the difference between boxing and fighting... If he dared to box, there was simply no assessing the scale of the gulf in class... Strangely, even old hands in the game had found themselves caught up by the pre-fight hoopla, talking confidently about a Hatton win... But strip away the blind hope, jingoism and understandable goodwill for Britain's livewire Mancunian and the eventful outcome always appeared clear"
Please don't get me wrong. England, USA, the World, even Floyd loves Ricky. The problem is that Ricky went to the Ring with his heart stuck in his throat - even if he believed he could do it, he visibly started doubting himself at that moment. And we all know why he was holding as early as the second round... He realised that Floyd could hurt him that bad with three right hands in the last 10 seconds of the 1st. If he believed, it was more a case of delusion than self-confidence... And believe me, I felt every punch Floyd threw at Ricky, fearing for his health. Thank Almighty God that he came through making jokes at the post-fight presser, God save Hatton, just a tremendous warrior...
Ricky is a competitor and pretty honest. GOing off what he said, how he preformed and the way he conducted interviews I'd say he honestly thoughth he had a legit chance at the upset. I know he didn't think he was a better boxer but Hatton's style has been thought to be enough to upset Floyd slick and elusive style. Most everyone was of course wrong who had this thought b/c you need more than just an aggressive style. Delusion would be Hatton thinking he could upset a prime MT....Confidence in ones self is what Hatton had before the sound of the initial bell when he faught Floyd. i don't think there was anything delusional about Hatton upseting Floyd. This is boxing and anything can happen. The chances of the upset occuring wasn't really a high probability but I've seen worse upsets than this one had the potential to be.
More interesting? Does allowing too much grappling and pushing and punching behing the head makes it more interesting for you guys? :roll: :think Take note . . . that gif is "ONLY" round 1. Hattons jabs, forearms, and warnings ---- Who cares ??? Hattons fights dirty --- every fight. Thats Hattons style and that is to physically to lean on, push, bull, butt, hold, and punch wherever. Hatton fans shouldn't cry when he gets some of his own medicine back. He does come to fight. People get there moneys worth. Also --- No one forced Hatton to lead with his face. This time he fought a better guy and got knocked out. Period.
People seem to forget that Mayweather is unbeaten and many top quality boxers have failed. There probably isn't anyone on th planet who can beat him right now. Ricky Hatton is simply no different. No need to slaughter the guy.
Oh common, PBF is the king of elbows but so what. Hatton is dirty and so is Cotto. Hopkins is too. Big deal. They all are. But Cortez is the dirtiest of them all.
