That's what is bugging me. "I fought scared cause the guy was really tall and heavy." "And he could really bang?" "No, he was just really tall and heavy." You don't protect your jaw against someone's height or weight but against their power. Why would you fight scared against someone who doesn't have big punching power? Again, "fighting scared" is a loaded term. But the question is still valid. If Haye fights that way against medium power, what will happen when he fights a real banger?
Yeah, really impressed by someone beating up on the awesome Tye Fields. :rofl My theory is fine. It doesn't mean it is a fact. It is a theory. Which will be tested. So be patient. If Haye fights exciting from now on against a real heavyweight banger than the theory has been tested and fails. Remember Wlad used to be balls-out too. Then he started to protect his chin. Haye may or may not make the same choice. Hopefully we will get a chance to see.
Asking somebody that has very recently fought at cruiserweight, to step up to heavy and KO a guy that has never been off his feet, and only lost once, is a big ask. Asking him to get in close and trade with a guy that size is ludicrous. Not because of punching power, but because how much energy would it sap out of him just clinching and wrestling with Valuev if he didn't KO him. It's well know that's how Lewis used to drain guys that fought him. Clinch, and lean on them. Someone (Holy?) once said clinching with Lewis was like wearing a lead overcoat or something like that, it just drains you. What about Valuev doing the same to a man so much smaller than him? Valuev is much bigger than Lewis. Haye would have been knackered in about 6 rounds. Only a crazy man, that has the advantages of youth, speed and reflexes would give those advantages up. What if Haye went balls out for the first 3 rounds, and Valuev was still standing? It's not like he has a history of being off his feet. Haye's done that once before remember, and lost. Yep, he could have been more active. But to criticise someone for fighting to their strengths and their opponents weakness is not smart.
