Smart move. For just your second HW fight ever, Peter would not be the guy I'd pick. I know this flies in the face of both the Haye hype and the general disrespectful attitude towards Peter round ESB at the moment, but I think that's the sensible way of looking at it.
Haye talks a good game, but seems reluctant to back it up. Probably saw what happened to his boy Khan and had second thoughts about Peter. Can't blame him for not wanting to fight a big puncher like Peter for his 1st fight at heavyweight though.
Who would wanna fight Peter. The guy cheats whenever possible and that's something I can't blame Haye for not wanting to deal with since the referee never will.
I don't blame Haye. Taking on Peter in his first fight back at heavyweight would be silly. If a Peter fight is viable a year from now i would expect Haye to take it. Just not now. Peter is made for Haye. He is slow and Haye could out box him for 12 rounds if he paces himself properly.
He had a heavyweight fight before and as Jack said in his post a fight with Peter could end everything sooner than expected. He needs to have two or even three good fights at Heavyweight to make his mark before a title shot is given, only that way he will guarantee good enough money and the title fight will be bigger.
Money and danger are not good balance. Fight with Klitchko give him much, much more money...win or lost..
When was this fight viable? Peter has been obligated to fight Klitschko since Vitali announced that he was coming back and would wait for Peter to fight Maskaev first. The timeline doesn't seem right.
ummm how could Haye fight Peter when he had to fight Vitali first? I would love for Vitali to challenge Haye if he wins :deal
If this is true, that is dissapointing. I am a big Haye fan because he's always wanted to fight the best. Money or not, the right time or not, Haye said he wanted to fight the best HW he could get. If he was offered a shot at Peter and he didn't take it, he's starting to lie and hype himself just like many of the others do. Hope this isn't true, but you should never say never when it comes to this corrupt, dirty business that is boxing.
Sometimes...other times its as easy and transparent as looking directly on the surface. Peter and James have outstanding Chins, dave does not. Dave does have great Power though which is nice, but fighting a guy who is bigger, stronger and more proven at HW or against a guy who is a better technician, tactiacian and overall more talented you get a pretty clear picture of what's going on or how things will play out. This isn't Cotto vs Marg where styles absolutely make the fight.
I think the fighters who started calling him out were basically defending themselves in retaliation to the claims that the Heavyweight division was a disgrace. I do agree that if he knocks out Barrett in sensational fashion, there will be plenty of buzz in the boxing community and he most likely will receive a marquee fight. And yes, I agree that his objective was to promote himself by confronting Klitschko on an escalator, and not a serious threat. But, he will not be given very much attention unless he knocks out Barrett.
