Haye V Maccarinelli - the Americans Audiences Impression

Haye V Maccarinelli was a massive promotion in the UK.

It was promoted as the "Disunited Kingdom"

A English Fighter (from London) v A Welsh Fighter (from Swansea)

It was a really big promotion and event.

3 World Crusierweight Titles on the line - WBC / WBA / WBO.

Evander Holyfield the former Undisputed World Crusierweight Champion flew into London to see the fight.

Also - it was broadcast all over America live on Showtime.

What was your impression on the build up / promotion ?

Did Haye impress you with his quick fire win ?

I enjoyed it quite a lot. From what I remember Mac slightly wobbled Haye at one point, but mostly Haye dominated the action with his athleticism prior to the KO. At least on here he was the big favorite.

 

That fight received very little promotion in the States. I was never impressed with Macca. He's a decent fighter who grabbed a WBO trinket. Luckily for Macca, Brits go crazy over domestic fights even if one of the fighters is horribly overmatched. Otherwise, Macca would've never gotten that payday. As far as Haye, it was an impressive perfomance on his part. He looked very fast, powerful, and accurate in his two rounds of work. Haye could be a big star in the States if there were some name Americans for him to fight. Beating one or both of the Klits could help out his star power as well in the States.

 

WHat did you think of the stoppage? Also being an American I was mostly looking forward to seeing Haye. i felt he would beat Mac without much problem. The only thing...which was a good thing in a competitive way was that I was concerned about David making the weight and the effects it could have. I believe Haye fought at HW in his fight prior to Mac.

 

Made me a die hard Haye fan, I love watching that fight.
The atmosphere around that fight was awesome.

You're right about Haye. To become a star you have to have fights with stars, especially American ones, and there aren't any whatsoever at heavyweight.

 

NB. Frank Warren said before the fight that he would give up promoting altogether if Enzo lost to Haye. Warren was convinced that Haye was going to have to completely drain himself to make the weight, which later transpired was not the case. Yes, Haye had to work very hard to make 200lbs, but he deliberately exaggerated his weight making 'problems' well over a year before the fight in order to persuade Warren and Enzo to take the fight. Warren was seen to visibly **** himself when Haye was drinking water minutes BEFORE the weigh in!!

 

Poor Mac , he's a very decent fighter and full of heart but a step below Haye , unfortunately for him from the look on his face he realised that about 5 minutes before the fight started.

Shame Haye hasnt kept the momentum going

 

I figured Haye would blow him away but do recall Macca rocking him in the first round. Made Haye's legs wobbly for a bit. I don't recall any U.S. TV coverage. Did it air on Showtime?

Haye-Adamek would have been a great crusierweight fight. Perhaps they can still fight at heavyweight. But I see Adamek beating Haye via late KO.

 

dont remember him getting rocked , he did cut him right enough.

Mac grazed Haye with a left hook but he stumbled from it cause mac was stood on his foot when he tried to evade it.

 

It was a fun fight for the few minutes it lasted, but it was hardly promoted at all in the US.

 

It was on showtime.
