Haye V Maccarinelli - the Americans Audiences Impression

Yeah i remember that too; it looked like a proper shot and I think it dented Haye's confidence a litte. You can see in the slowmo during rounds the real nature of it tho, I think that's why it ended in round two; in retrospect it really could have ended in the first if Haye was at full confidence.

 

He seemed devoid of a gameplan, or had one but wasnt sticking to it at all.

I think the smartest thing he was doing was trying to counter Haye's right with his left hook. But Haye was already slipping it (I guess they envisaged that would be what they'd be countering with) from the get-go!

 

Who's gonna be the first to land the bombs

 

Remember being amazed that people thought it was a 50/50 fight and kept saying things like 'it's a matter of who lands first'. It was never a matter of who landed first, simply when Haye first landed.

I was confidently predicting Haye KO1 well before the fight though I did more get the feeling that Maccarinelli would come out more cautiously than expected as the fight approached and modified the prediction to Haye KO in whichever round he first lands a clean shot...

Highlight was off course Maccarinelli's 'Captain Caveman' style ring'walk'.

 

ESPN had some nice write-ups about the fight. I don't really remember SHO doing much in terms of advertising it though.
The fight itself was fun for the brief moment that it lasted. I always get a little disappointed in quick fights like that, almost like it ended before I got a chance to get into it. It was also fairly plain to see that Mac was completely out of his depths in that fight and reinforced that viewpoint in his following performances.

 

i was impressed with hayes quick ko against an undefeated fighter to be undisputed in cruiser weight, but after seeing enzo's **** chin in later fights it doesn't seem that great...

 

I think it was a dual broadcast on Showtime with an MMA event in London as well. Very cerebral fight from Haye. That crack from the overhand right that started Enzos demise was awesome. The look on his face as he realized what he was in the ring with was priceless.

 

the betting for this fight was close. the general opinion at the time of it happenning was 2 knockout artists with glass jaws, it wasn't gonna last long.

 

Yes- he didnt hng about during the ring "walk" - he broke the 100 metre record probaly.

 

Haye wants to retire in something like 12 months, according to his own words he has no plans to become big in the US, he says he is not interested because there are no top dog US HW boxers.

Just watched it again - first round was extremly close - If I had to chose I would of gave to Mac but I scored it 10-10 , but then when Haye started throwing his quick, powerful punches and flurrys you saw right there that Enzo just wouldnt be able to carry on.

 

I rated this win very highly for Haye when it happened, but afterwards Enzo was exposed as a glass chinned B class fighter who has trouble surviving at the elite level. Still a good win for Haye but it seriously takes away some of the glory.

 

Maccarinelli had already lost once prior to the Haye fight.

 

And as people have already said, Haye was brilliant at timing and landing that overhand right counter. Mac was so bad at bringing his jab back.

First round was pretty even but the moment Haye tagged Mac he just opened fire and started throwing. Mac just couldn't take it.
