for the boxing fans, yes. for his fighters, no. these 2 sites don't pay as much or even close to showtime who doesn't even pay as much as hbo. I think telefutura or telemundo pays more for their fights. broner, stevenson, qullin and Garcia better start learning
I’m all for things that can make the sport more popular, however quite frankly I think boxing in the US has gone past the point of no return when it comes to being shown on network tv. The reason for that is not because a fan base couldn’t be raised again, I think that could still happen under specific conditions, but due to current income expectations of any fighter of note. For the sport to thrive again in network tv you must have enough good fights with top or near the top talent to attract viewers. FNF type of fights simply won’t cut it in my view, and, unfortunately, I don’t think there is enough money in network tv to pay for more than that on a regular basis. The Khan’s, Broner’s, Maidana’s, and Garcia’s of the world all command purses of $1-1.5 million per fight (if not more), and you’d need to pit that type of talent against each other on a regular basis for the fans to start building up again (mismatches won’t cut it), so you are probably looking at about a $3million cost per fight just from the purse of the main fight. Add to it all the added costs of putting a full card together and broadcasting the fight, and I just don’t see where the money to pay for that is going to come from. For better or worse the huge income from ppv is what allowed the top boxers to become really well paid athletes compared to most other sports and it has caused boxers to expect and demand that kind of income. Honestly I don’t see any of them being willing to take a huge paycut per fight in order to potentially grow a fan base in the future that may or may not bring in the advertisement money that would be mandatory in order to support the sport in this format in the long term.
Looks like all of Haymons fighters will be feasting on bums. His fighters rarely fights with anyone outside of his umbrella, unless they're nobodies. Putting his fighters on NBC will ensure that they won't be fighting anyone from Golden Boy or HBO promoters. The funny thing is, he's not even a promoter. There has to be some kind of Ali-act violations. This is no doubt a desperation move. They're about to be kick off of Showtime.
Only 4 dates on NBC proper won't change things and NBCS is a small network, that and the fact it's a time buy is very concerning. Let's hope for the best.
the fact that he's putting up his own money says a lot imo. most promoters look for handouts from casinos and what not. this guy obviously knows business and is taking on the risk.
her best show was cunningham/mansour. that was great match up that made all the other showcase adamek bouts look like the **** they were.
name one example when this hasn't been the case with you? if you can i will admit im wrong, do you accept that challenge?
mate showtime have obviously had enough with him, HBO don't want him either , with the amount of fighters he has in his stable it's basically time for him to **** or get off the pot. His putting his own money up because he has no other choice can you at least admit that almost all his fights this year have been shitty mismatches that showtime are raging about and that the whole Quillen situation made him look like a terrible advisor? because thats what his supposed to be an advisor if he knows business so well why did he make Quillen turn down a career high payday where Haymon would also have got a big cut from it?
