Amir Khan would destroy all his opponents.

Sounds like a good idea allthough it's nowhere near the standard of competition the super 6 is offering.

Can't see Ortiz being invovlved though, he could do with a couple of tune up fights to build up his confidence again after his defeat.

People are missing the point here. None of the fighters mentioned are big names yet. This is a perfect opporunity for HBO to see who they should invest their future in and it also gives those in the tourney a chance to establish themselves as the best of the current emerging talent. Of course it could be better, but the pissing thing isn't even signed yet! It could conceivably change in line-up or format or it could completely fall-through. I think it's a great idea. The winner is in a perfect position to start calling out the likes of Urango and Peterson (after he schools the butting git):deal.

I disagree, simply because of the timescale over which these tournaments take place.

Why would you fight your way through a 4/6/8 man tourney against quality opposition over 24-36 months only to be regarded as a fringe contender at the weight afterwards? The risk/reward ratio is all wrong, especially when the alternative is two easy fights then a title shot if you play your cards right.

IMHO tourney's like this have to be top quality and produce 'the man' at the weight, or something very close to.

This is the problem - the tourney, even a four man will take at least 12 months. And there's a serious risk of losing. Any of those fighters is in a position to call out Peterson or Bradley right now. Without the rigmarole or risk involved in a tourney against other fighters on their level. And 18 months down the line who's to say someone at lightweight or someone from outside the tourney at light-welter hasn't come along and usurped the winner as a serious contender?

Again - risk/reward for the fighters mentioned is just all wrong. It won't happen with this line up.

Yeah, right! Like Warren is going to put Khan in that with bangers like Ortiz and Maidana.

Nevertheless, they could still make a good tournament out of it. The more of these things we get the better, it means more good fights get signed up.

I do take your point, but I still like the idea. For me, none of these fighters are in a position to start demanding bigger fights at the moment, and this tourney would be a fantastic way to sort that out. It's an elimination tourney anyway so there will only be a maximum of two fights for the finalists.

Isn't Khan near the end of his contract with Warren anyway?:think I'm still not sold on Maidana anyway, but I think Ortiz could cause Khan some problems.

As for your second point, I agree. This is the sort of innovation boxing needs for it's hardcore follwers and potential new fans, IMO.

Anybody that can punch hard will or has the potential to cause him problems. That's why I very much doubt they are gonna sign him up to a tournament where he absolutely must face two of the biggest bangers in the division. They have just got his career back on track so I doubt it would make sense to them, they can easily milk him on PPV against decent but less dangerous foes and then think about super fights later. These are very dangerous fights that aren't huge in the grand scheme of things.

All kudos to them if they go ahead with it though.

You do realise that HBO will hype the winner more than they did Michael Grant, Taylor, Berto and Arreola combined? ;)

Seriously though, this is a good idea. You have the boxers in Khan and Alexander, a brawler in Maidana and the boxer puncher that is Ortiz. They're all young guys (apart from Maidana?) and the winner will be a superstar. You've got some real cracking potential fights though Khan-Alexander would be a stinker. Get Paul McCloskey in there :yep.

Its not really a tournament is it, 2 fights that might have happened anyway with the winners facing each other.

But the Super 6 seems to be having an impact on the thinking, which is good news if the promoters are pushed to match competitive fights - which these are - so I would welcome it.

I'd like to see the winner take on Bradley but that depends if he's still champion himself at the end of it. Either way the winner will be in a better negotiating position with a couple of decent wins on TV and with HBO backing.

It makes sense in the fact Khan has to face Maidana anyway after Salita, this way Warren can make more money from HBO and SKY PPV, and Khan has a real chance to show the U.S and the world if he can win this 4 man tourney that he is a real player in the sport.

    Lets hope it's made.

Cant see Warren letting Khan enter this, i think theres more chance of Khan facing Hatton!!

As it would be worth more money, therefore a better risk , and if he lost could be put down to losing to one of the p4p best fighters at a relitivly early stage of Khans career!

A four man elimination tournament can be done in under a year, it only involves three fights in total. I don't see why tournaments have to profess to establish "the man". Surely guaranteeing fights among quality fighters is the most important thing.

How the hell can their be a Light Welterweight tournament without Hatton, Ajose and that serious operator Timothy Bradley.

Firstly I imagine Hatton would cost far too much. Ajose still isn't a name on the world stage, Timothy Bradley is a credible suggestion though.

If it does go ahead then I think the reason they have Ortiz in there is because he is with Golden Boy but they can't include him and not Maidana.
