HBO gave up because they couldn't fit their production equipment into the facility along with the other production equipment. Those other fights were never going to make it to HBO airwaves. As far as HBO buying Golovkin fights, this fight would've been insignificant. They pay less than a million for an entire Golovkin card thus far and have seen a high return on viewers.
My source told me that negotiations were going well for an HBO2 broadcast until the undercard blew apart. They didn't mention anything about equipment space issues only that things changed when the card did. Perhaps space was also an issue, I don't know about that; only what I was told. They were also look at it as exposure for Murray who potentially could face GGG later this year. You are correct about HBO's ROI on GGG. It's been huge.
HBO badly wanted to show the fight. It was only a problem with the logistics that prevented them from doing so.
ya, top middleweights are calling out and begging for a shot at Triple G. they just won't shut up about it.
That is what he gets for taking easy fights. GGG had better learn from Wlad. The American fans are not going watch **** fights. GGG needs to step the hell up and stop taking easy fights. I'm proud of HBO. Even as much as they hype GGG they will not show his crap fights. They must be losing money on his fights.
Bunch of assholes gloating because they WILL NOT get to see one of the top fighters in the sport perform. So many on here have agenda's and are fans of fighters not fans of boxing.
Moron, it's not like GGG had Sergio, Sturm, Quillin, Geale, Sturm, and Adama in a line, all willing to fight, and he picked Adama. Adama was the best opponent willing to sign on the dotted line. The people who are and have ducked GGG isn't even arguable, it's just fact at this point. As far as money goes: GGG is a huge profit for HBO. There are threads on these board documenting the amount paid by HBO and the ratings brought in by GGG--it's a steal. He had the 3rd highest ratings of 2013, and was nearly tied with the 2nd highest, all for a bargain for HBO. HBO is making a killing, arguably the best deal in boxing.
Yeah, and much of the support/hate seems to be along racial lines. True fans of boxing, enjoy and support great fighters of all races, colors, and creeds.
Beggars can't be choosers, it's all that was available. Call it an appetizer for the real fights April-December. When top talent hides under their beds with their promoters, and don't want to risk the probable loss unless they get a huge paycheck, you have to take the fight you can get. We'll laugh at the circus-like stoppage in Feb., and tune-in for the real fight in April. That's what's available.
