To be fair Maurice Hooker is a good fight for Benn if he turns up in shape. It would be a step-up but no turning back from there. I still think Hearn is using Hooker’s name for no reason and that Benn will end up fighting Robert Guerrero next.
And thats understandable but dont keep banging on that he is an elite WW when he or his team are too fearful to put him in a genuine 50/50 or even 60/40. Dont p*ss on my back and tell me it raining.
Hate ? Maybe a few people but thats the way in boxing forums. They attract the die hard fans who want to turn their nose up a pre designed package thats aimed at "casual" boxing fans. It's similar to music lovers who despise anything tats played on commercial pop stations yet love peruvian flute bands playing at 3.20 am on bbc4 with Jools Holland. That said there was a lot of people who just saw the truth that Conor Benn was just not a very talented boxer when he turned pro and i have to give him respect the difference between then and now is one of (if not the biggest) improvement i have ever seen in a British fighter. For his first 5 or 6 fights i looked at him and thought their were guys from my old amateur gym who would have beat him. Now i can say we are seeing a guy that looks a lot better but that doesnt mean we are seeing an elite WW in any way. In truth we dont know how far he can go because we havent even seen him in with a british/european title level opponent.
Hooker has never beaten anyone of note bar a split decision win against Turbo Terry. He should also have lost to Perez, that was a terrible decision. Not hard to find a step up from the chef Algieri
So today Hearn said that young Yafai will go straight to 'championship fights' after going pro, because his amateur and semi-pro career has been enough build-up. I know it's not a direct comparison for Benn but makes some of the Benn nonsense stand out even more. Clearly he's not good enough yet, why not say so?
Bosh is a gimmick and a poor one at that. Concentrate on your boxing skills instead. Lastly, what is it with boxers fathers getting into the limelight? Or female boxers girlfriends? Fury Warrington Fisher Harper.
I have previously argued for it in this forum : I think Eddie Hearn would be better off without all these stories where one can rightly question how much of what he says is true ?
Benn’s next opponent is looking like Van Heerden: - fought 2 mins 40 in the last 3 years - not won a 12 rounder in over 6 years and only 1 in the last 9 years Hearn is going off the narrative ‘but he headlined against Ennis recently’. Van Heerden was actually a late replacement as Ennis’ original opponent (Dulorme) pulled out with covid 2 weeks before.
We’re building a global star Koogz, you look how many rounds it took Mayweather to get rid of Hatton and this just shows how good Conor is.
