Possibly, but to be honest you can't blame DiBella for that. I mean if you were Geale who would you rather fight Golovkin for the title or Macklin in a crossroads match? Good luck to Macklin though whatever he does I saw him when he made his debut.
Seeing how hard GGG hit's i'd take the Macklin fight I think Macklin missed the boat sadly, he was robbed against Sturm and really it's a big shame he was never world champion, i don't think he has enough left to win a world title now, All those hard fights over the years and the brutal KO from GGG have taken their toll, i reckon for both Hearn and Macklin this is a short term agreement Macklin aiming to get a few money fights before hanging them up, I really think he beats Lee, always have as well. Lee has looked poor since JCC Jr and even if Mack is shopworn he will still beat Lee. Other good fights out their in the UK for him, BJS, Ryder, Eubank even Murray could be a possibility.
Macklin will hammer Lee. Lee is very beatable. It's a shame that Matt never suck with one trainer and gave it a good go.
That was Matt's problem he never stuck with anybody. I mean if Macklin had stayed with FW for longer and kept Peter Harrison on as trainer we could be talking about a World champion with 10 world title fights under his belt.
To be honest I think Macklin will be more interested in a World title shot rather than Andy Lee. Boxing all about the right fights at the right time and if Hearn can get him a shot at Sam Soliman for the IBF he will do well.
Macklin must be one of the luckiest fighters around. 32 years old, lost 3 of his last 5, proved he is not at world level yet people talk about him like he is a genuine world title contender.
I know what you are saying about what Geale would prefer Ryan, but that's not the point. The point is that Macklin was fully trained and had sacrificed for a Geale fight and he got shafted with 10 days to go. That is just plain wrong. It shouldn't happen. Who represents Macklins interests? Did they read the contract? What the hell are the lawyers doing? What is a contract for? It's crazy. Same sort of **** happens to people buying a house, getting gazzumped at the last minute.....:good
Steve Collins moved around a lot too, you know, and it didn't do him any harm....it's fairly important to have a single solid training set up but it's not not the whole story....
These things happen Len, I know there wrong, but it's happening all the time at the minute in boxing just look at the Haye-Fury and Charr fiasco. I catch you're drift about Macklins interests and with DiBella being a scumbag lawyer himself he would have known the contract inside out, but HBO wanted the Golovkin-Geale fight and I suppose there's not much he could have done about it. Another thing Len Steve Collins did move around a lot and it didn't do him any harm, but the difference with him and Macklin was he learned his education under the Petronelli's in America and worked with some top trainers in Floyd Patterson, Freddie King before settling with Freddie Roach. That was a good bit of moving around :good
You are correct Ryan, I know. From di bellas view, individual boxers ...like Macklin....come and go, but hbo goes on forever. He pretty much has to play ball with them, I know.
I thought Andy Lee was focusing on Junior Middleweight now, his last fight was at that weight and he said he felt a lot better down there. I think hes targetting a big fight with Cotto or Canelo in a few fights time, his last fight KO was very eye catching.
The ko was eye catching alright...real highlight-reel, Hollywood stuff. But what also caught my eye, is that it's still the same old Andy at the end of the day. All the old flaws were once again in evidence. Whats worrying for me is what happened in the rounds before the big ko shot landed. How many times can andy count on an obligingly clueless opponent sleepwalking face first onto his Sunday punch?
