There was a good thread in the classic not long back, McGrain broke it down well. I see Hopkins backpedalling but controlling the ring action, and getting off first. To put it simply. I can see Hagler beating him, he could really take away a guys jab. But I'd favour Monzon.
I'd pick Hearns, but it would be a competitive fight. Over 12 rounds, Hearns' activity, footwork, blinding jab and devastating right hand would keep Hopkins very busy. Hopkins would step up his own output and pressure as Hearns tired in the middle of the fight. While he'd have some success, Hopkins is unlikely to stay inside to work like Leonard did. He doesn't have the speed or explosiveness of the Ray. So Hearns would have time to recover even while Hopkins was roughing him up. It's actually here that I see Hearns getting a stoppage victory. Hopkins always puts his head down on the way in, and Hearns is fast and confident enough to fire the uppercut through the middle, or use his feet to regain range and get the left hook in. Once done, Hopkins is open for the right hand and BOOM. I see him being dazed enough to get put down and, on regaining his feet, Hearns stopping him on accumulation of punches. But it's always possible Hopkins simply plays it safe and gets cagey.
I could see the younger B-Hop roughing Hearns up. B-Hop lacked Barkleys dig but could get nasty when he needed to.
I wish I could vote on both options of stoppage and points as I think that Hearns is more than capable of both...:yep I have gone for points on my vote...:good
