If Tommy could catch Robinson with his right he could win but the same could be said about Robinson's left. This is the kind of fight that if they fought 5 times there would probably be a different outcome every time.
I bet it'd be quite similar. Difference is Robinson likely doesn't do quite so poorly on the outside as he was better on the move than Leonard, more quickly and enthusiastically commits to the 'walk him down, rip to the head and body from the pocket' plan anyway, and almost certainly ends the matter a few rounds earlier given his rather crazy firepower, which was superior not only to Leonard's, but possibly even Tommy's.
Great post. Hearns at `47 had never really been through adversity. He was such an overwhelming offensive force. When Leonard did hurt him Tommy Hearns didnt even have the presence of mind to tie him up and try to recover. He was a more mature experiance fighter at `54. Stronger too.
You`ve really got to favour Robinson vs any WW, he`s the only guy in history I give the benefit of the doubt of being the best ever at the weight with shite footage available, based on his record as well as footage before & after his WW days + the little footage we do have of him as a welter. Hearns has the chance to beat any of the best WWs, the Leonard fight + his record at the weight proves that despite Hearns losing the Leonard fight but Robinson is a different thing altogether, he had everything Leonard had in boxing ability but more power & more dangerous in a tear-up. I`d favour Robinson to stop Hearns, Tommy was one of the best ever, easily, but Robinson was number one, there has never been a better fighter in boxing history. Robinson TKO13 Hearns
The reality is that rpime 147 SRR is THE best of them all... If the fight with Hearns gets rough, you just know for certain, that SRR has the moxie to beat Hearns down. How many times over the years did SRR have tough fights with naturally bigger men, and outfought them ? He was a complete fighter, boxer/banger.If SRL stops Hearns at welter, SRR does it quicker and more definitive...It wasn`t just his amazing skills that made SRR the besr of the best. His heart, chin and balls saw him through all the tough ones ...
At 147, Robinson inevitably comes out on top. Hearns was like a starved skeleton at 147. If Leonard barely did it, Robinson convincingly does so.
Robinson stops Hearns. No doubt in my mind. Robinson could do everything that everybody who ever beat or troubled Hearns could do only better.
