One of the commentators mentioned that Duddy is being considered as a potential contender for Pavlik's title. I don't know if this is the best way for Pavlik to make a name for himself. Sure, I realize that he's coming off two very tough fights against Taylor, and perhaps an easier match is warranted at this point in time, but a fighter's prime is very finite. Pavlik should be looking for the biggest and most prestigious pay days he can get right now before the parade passes him by.

On the contrary, I think that's exactly the thing that's caused a lot of the grumbles.

When the promotion and hype behind a fighter is so keen to play up what a devastating puncher he is, when footage and comments about him training like a demon and getting ready to look like a fire-breathing monster, when Manny is waxing lyrical about his one-punch knockout power...and all of this quite rightfully so, as well.

Then when you get a jab-heavy and cautious showing, some people get pissed off.

Wlad pulverises his next opponent into a fine mist, he'll be fine.

    1. Tyson fought more big punchers than Brewster. And has overall taken more punishment than Brewster most notably in his losses. I'd rather have 4 1/2 rounds of a Wladimir Klitschko punishment than 8 rounds of a Lennox Lewis punishment.

    2. Tyson getting DQ'd had more to do with his brain (or lack of) than his heart. By his own admission he's always claimed it was a retaliation for the headbutts. He has never deviated from that and therefore it should be taken at facevalue. Holyfield once bit an opponent on the neck/chest during the amatuers- he never gets flogged for it. Tyson motioning for Holyfield to come forward after the 2nd bite signifies a madman had taken over and that he wanted to fight.

    3. Chins are subjective but given their histories I believe Tyson has faced bigger punchers and had taken more prolonged punshiment in fights where he was simply outmatched and outfought.

    4. Tyson retired on his stool at the age of 38 on his last fight long after his sell by date. Very different from Lamon Brewster's situation.

Maybe so, but I still think Tyson was rocked and hurt a bit easier. Lewis let Tyson hang in there for a while. Wlad hammered Brewster for 4 1 / 2 rounds, and nailed him with a huge right hand. How Brewster got up and won was one of those amazing chin moments.

Fighters who get DQ's unpurpose or foul are often scared or tired. A lack of fighting heart.

Tyson was not outfought until Douglas. I do not think Douglas or Holyfield stops Brewster.

Brewster could have gone blind in one eye. Yes its different.

Back to the initial focus of this thread, at least there is movement toward unification. That should give us better matches. Now, this will not insure an unexciting mix of styles will not result occasionally.

Also, I have never seen a fighter get so much flack for pitching a shut-out.

Tyson has fought 20-30 top level fights, The only top level fighters Brewster has faced were Wlad and Golota

Right. If this were Roy Jones or Floyd Mayweather, fans say they were too good to be hit. Wlad made his man miss a lot.

Back to the thread....Chagaev, Ibragimov, Peter, Valuev, Klitschko, and Povetkin are all in their primes right now, and some have already fought or will be fighting each other shortly!

I do beleive Wlad wants to fight the winner of Chagaev vs Valuev, but that could take a while and I'm not sure if either will fight Wlad unless the money is 3x what they can make on a bogus Luan Krasniqui / Owen Beck type of defense.

Wlad has a chance to clean up the era. He's already beaten Peter, and Ibragimov, and should defeat Povtekin next. What's left for Wlad is to fight the winner of Chagaev vs Valuev, then he can say he cleaned up the era.

    Mendoza,

Do you think Povetkin has any chance whatsoever of upsetting Wlad? I know he only has 15 fights under his belt and is probably a bit on the small side next to Klitschko, but he sure as hell showed that he has a lot of talent. His win over Eddie Chambers was not a particularly exciting fight, but he defeated a good young prospect who was unbeaten in some 30 fights, plus chalked up some wins over a few veterans.

The heavyweight picture was very week from about the time Lewis retired to about 2006, but I think things are starting to come together a bit. No, I'm not implying that we are entering another golden age, but the dynamics of the division are not as glum as it appears. For the first time in years, we are seeing the formations of a unification. The men who are involved are probably more talented than a lot of us gave them credit for. I think we're in for some good matches on the horizon.

Yes, I do. Povetkin is the type who's willing to walk though fire to win, and has 15 round type of stamina. Wlad cannot defeat Povetkin the way he defeated Irbagimov because Povetkin is an old school warrior who is not afraid to risk exchanges. He'll pay the price and take two if it means landing one, or tiring the other guy out. Wlad is going to have to open up and keep throwing punches until Povetkin falls. I think Povetkin looked bad vs Chambers, but not all of it had to do with Chambers. Povetkin was slightly ill. He showed better speed and power in other fights, and excellent ring smarts. Intangible wise, I think Povetkin has some Marciano in him.

I'll go with Wlad when they fight. I think Povetkin needs a bit more seasoning for this fight, but his management doesn't think so.

    Agree,

Anything thing can happen when you take a young undefeated, talented prospect who had as great of an amatuer career as Povetkin and who beat some of the guys he's already fought in the pros. As for his managment rushing him along, we have to consider that he turned pro somewhat late, and doesn't have much time to waste. He's already something like 28 or 29 years old. His prime is right now. He needs to train as hard as he can, and watch countless clips of Wlad in an effort to make the best of this opportunity.

Maybe, maybe not. I've already lost interest though. I'll keep one eye on developments though.

If it's a choice between subscribing to a special channel/paying a PPV fee to watch a Chagaev fight OR watching Rocky III again on free TV, I'd go for Rocky III. That's the point I'm at.

Povetkin's management could have tired for a high WBC, WBA, or WBO ranking, but chose the IBF path, which was where Wlad is. Things like this tell me they think Povektin is for real.
