Sam Langford,Charley Burley,Holman Williams,Cocoa Kid, Lloyd Marshall,Joe Jeannette ,Sam McVey,Peter Jackson ,etc never received title shots, should we airbrush them out of pugilistic history too?

Any credible list of men that fought at around 175lbs would include.
    Charles.
    Tunney.
    Langford.
None ever had a lightheavyweight world title fight.

It's only based off popularity. What is this Middle School? Accomplishments, and H2H don't mean s h i t.

    Marshall beat
    Tommy Farr
    Freddie Mills
    Ken Overlin
    Bob Dunlap
    Jake Lamotta
    Joey Maxim
    Jack Chase
    Johnny Romero
    Ezzard Charles
    Curtis Sheppard
    Charley Burley
    Shorty Hogue
    Babe Risko
    Anton Christoforidis
    Teddy Yarosz
    Lou Brouillard
    Nate Bolden
    Fitzie Fitzpatrick
    Holman Williams

There are 8 world champions in there and several that could ,and probably would have been champ, given the opportunity. Yet you call him a second tier fighter? You are a profoundly ignorant man on the subject of boxing and you need to drop the nasty sexual comments now.

Well, so many post h2h-lists. If they are credible than one based on popularity should be even more so - at least that can be somewhat objectively estimated. H2h is pure speculation.

Popularity, ATG, and H2H, are all very different lists. Someone needs to teach this to @LD Boxer-Puncher

Ken Overlin was a world champion !Mills was a light heavyweight in fact he was the world champion at light heavyweight!Tommy Farr was green?Yeah he had only had 120 fights!

Here is the report of the Maxim fight in which Marshall conceded 21 lbs to Maxim.

"Lloyd Marshall, rated by the NBA as a logical contender for the light-heavyweight title, spotted Joey Maxim 21 lbs. and eight years, but emerged with a unanimous 10 round decision. Marshall registered two knockdowns and Maxim almost took the complete count on his second trip to the canvas. The jabbing Maxim went down from a right to the jaw in the 2nd round. He could have risen from that fall earlier, but elected to rest until the toll reached eight. However, the blow that dumped him on the floor in the 10th was a different matter. A bit peeved because the 9th round had been taken from him for a low blow, Marshall rushed Maxim at the start of the final heat and felled him with a quick right hand shot. Maxim managed to struggle to his feet at the count of nine and was able to stab, cling and stagger his way through to the end of the round." -Associated Press .
Two years later Maxim beat Jersey Joe Walcott.
Overlin barely second tier? Yeah he only beat.
    Al Hostak
    Ezzard Charles
    Steve Belloise
    Ceferino Garcia
    Nate Bolden
    Fred Apostoli
    Carmen Barth
Overlin lost just 19 of 165 fights!
    Teddy Yarosz?
    He only beat
    Tommy Freeman
    Eddie Ran
    Pete Latzo
    Ben Jeby
    Ken Overlin
    Billy Conn
    Lou Brouillard
    Solly Krieger
    Babe Risko
    Vince Dundee
Yarosz had 127 fights and lost just 18 of them!
As I said you are totally ignorant about boxing and you will stay that way because you think you know everything but know nothing , you not only cannot be told anything , you lack the capacity to learn anything.
So ignorant and stupid you will stay.

What is it that's made you misinterpret that I am the one that doesn't know that? I think it's you who needs to get studying... You have Sonny Liston at 3, the only possible reason can be that you THINK he would far well against most H2H.
That isn't for a top 10 list. Top 10 list is for ATG's and you become one of those through what you achieve, not through who you MIGHT have beat if you had fought them, despite the fact that you haven't.
I hope I've cleared it up for you
