in britain a few people prefered the more obvious choices, mason/bruno/notice....akinwande was just pretty much a decent jab right hand. he was boring but not even in a technically skilled less eventful boring. actually just stopping play so he could win.

oyebola was a better fighter personally had he been given better managment.

He wasn't even a C-rater in the 90's. He was dreadful.

Please put more up me, I like it.

I recall watching him bust up and stop Alexander Zolkin on the Tyson-Holyfield undercard and thought he had a future for sure. Not a world beater mind you but a contender whose height and reach might find out a few shorter/mid size heavyweights of that era.

It didn't really happen though. He was as dull as dish water generally and seemed to lack the necessary mongrel to make it to the top. He did score a couple of spectacular stoppages against Jeremy Williams and Mo Harris but against the better guys he seemed to clam up.

As to the question I think he had the physical tools to go a ways and didn't so perhaps he didn't reach at least his "physical" potential.

He neede to be matched up with the face first plodders, where he can box and use his reach. Against that type fighter he looks good. It's any pressure guy that forces him to fight inside is the problem. There were plenty of catchers around and that's why the guy had that undefeated record heading into that Lewis bout. His stock price sure did drop after that one, didn't it?

No one would touch him after the shambles of the Lewis fight, he went on a winning run, fought McCall, won every round then got ko'd. No more big fights after that

He looked awful, but he was essentially a superior Ruiz. Given Holyfield's trouble with Ruiz you'd tip Akinwande to have some success, unless you think the Lewis fights took allot away from Evander. At this stage Holyfield didn't have as much stamina to chase down trickier opponents, so yes he was ripe to be upset by such a style imo

Wrong again, dick-lick. He was highly regarded going into the Lewis fight, and the local odds makers had it practically a 50/50 fight.

PowerPuncher - he didn't "win every round then get ko'ed" against McCall either, so you can stfu too.

    Clueless anoraks.
