But by sticking his thumb into the laceing he did buy him man at least an extra minute (was actually longer if you watch the footage but agreed not 7 minutes). When recovering from a shot like that an extra 20 seconds can make a big difference nevermind a minute!
NO, NO, NO and NO again... They have researched this using the original films, radio broadcasts and daily newspapers. We know as a FACT that the break between rounds was 1 minute 5 seconds... There was no delay at all and Cooper is an old bitter ****.
Well to be fair is a V long time since I have watched it. Will try and get a look tonight. More than happy to admit I could be wrong. However another point that sir Henry IMO correctly makes is that if the Knockdown was at the beggining or middle of the round Clay wouldn't have made it!
Hmm, bit harsh. Dundee says himself that it was an extra 10 secs and that was beneficial enough to give his man some more mental breathing space so to speak.
Not true, Ali proved to have the best recupurative powers of any Heavy EVER, Coopers idea is pure speculation
Cooper is a bitter old man. All this with the Clay fight - sticking Ali on his arse before being stopped in the next round was the best thing that ever happened to him, if truth be told. As for the Bugner fight, it was close, but to remain bitter about it for all these years is just pathetic.... even in the immediate aftermath he believed that he 'nicked' it - hardly a resounding win, hardly a robbery if it goes against you. Also deriding the achievements of other British heavies such as Bruno and Lewis - stating that if he was in his prime he would have loved to have fought Big Frank.... wonder if he'd say the same thing four or five rounds later? Very good fighter, not a great one.
Come on mate anyone could see that Ali was ****ed when he got up. He'd admit that himself! No way would he have survived if that was at the beggining of the round! I know like the biggest Ali fan ever and he's hands down disagree with you. Infact I'd be interested to see if a single person on here agree with you that If that Knockdown came at the beggining of the round Ali would have survived!
I wouldn't agree or disagree with it to be honest as it is pure speculation. One thing to remember though is that every time Ali was put on his arse he was up within a matter of 2-3 seconds. He did have an amazing recovery ability and was clever enough to survive a round on instinct.
But I've seen fighters in similar, and occassionally worse conditions, survive an entire round. What about Juanma in his last fight, for example?
Pure speculation. What about Ali-Frazier 1? Whether your mate is the biggest Ali fan or not, it means **** all when judging whether I'm right or wrong. It's pure speculation. History lends truth to my opinion; Ali proved over and over again he could not be kept down.
LOL totally , I love weird facts and thats one of the best I've ever heard. I always gets surprised by how small Cooper was , there was a thing about the Lonsdale belt in the Last BM and there was a picture of cooper and his arms are toaty looking . There is a pic of Haye ( not a big heavy obv.) in the same magazine and its night and day the size difference. Good left hook tho eh ?
Of course it's pure speculation. It's like you can deal in facts when talking about what if's! I genuinly don't think he would have surived the round if that had happened at the beggining of the round! Of course I am not claiming this is Fact!
