Not the best fundamentals, which left his chin more exposed. A naturally smaller guy who bulked up from cruser too. Also a story of a boxer who got derailed 3 times seeing him lose his chances for fights. Disapointed we never got Hide Danny Williams :hey
I don't think he can really be classified as a natural cruiser though. He was only fighting below 200 lbs in his first 10 fights - all of which happened prior to the age of 20. By the time he fought Bowe in 1995, he had been a heavyweight for sometime and was a highly condensed 214 lbs of all muscle. He once again returned to cruiser late in his career, but had to train down to get there and by that time the cruiser limit had been raised anyway.
He's talked about this, he took loads of protein shakes and overate to bulk up. I don't think making cruser was ever a struggle. A naturally smaller guy. Also he was managed poorly, little in the way of learning fights.
I thought he looked pretty good at about 214. He was chizzled and didn't bare the appearance of a guy who had simply added weight.. he certainly looked better within those parameters than Michael Moorer, Michael Spinks and highly comparable to Evander Holyfield - all of whom bulked up to heavyweight and all of whom spent considerable more time below 200.
Yea I'd probably go with that, but only Holyfield managed to handle the bigger punchers where as the others wilted to differing degrees because their chins weren't really meant for the division.
Hide uses to weigh in with weights in his pockets. He was definitely not meant to be a HW. Holyfield did bulk up brilliantly but he was a truly great fighter. Hide had above average hand speed and incredible power.
If it goes past the opening rounds, Seldon definitely has a chance at getting a rhythm going and winning the fight. But Hide should be favored. It's rough picking Seldon to beat anyone with power and the ability to land.
I would pick Hide to win. I think with his footwork and power he would hit that jaw and KO Seldon. I also think he had a better chin than Seldon.
Hide by KO! Hide punched very hard, Seldon wouldn't be able to take it. Hide didn't have the best chin ever but I thin he could take more of Seldon's punches than the other way around. Hide was quick and he was busy... he'd get to Seldon before Seldon would get to him.
Hide for all his power was a very poor finisher and had a screw lose! Seldon was a better boxer than Hide and had enough Power to ko herbie. who knows what Will happen would be great all action and chaos.
I think Seldon was more vulnerable to solid punchers than Hide was. I see Hide by KO. Both guys with quick hands and fantastic offensive abilities. Good fight to watch!
