My bet would be Hide KO round 1.

Five of his six fights at CW have gone that way.

The guy has one of the best KO records in the sport and most of that was from fighting heavies, he had Bowe out on his feet by Bowe's own admission. At CW he's a monster. Unless he's got old of a sudden thiscan only go one way. Hide would startch anyone at currently at CW except maybe Haye.

Hide has lost a bit of that zip he used to have. I remember watching him on eurosport years ago and since then he has lost that spark he once had. He still has the punch just not the superb movement he used to have.

He has been through quite a bit, losing all his money, accussed of kerb crawling etc.

All this Herbie Hide appreciation is very admirable, but anybody with more than a casual interest in boxing knows that his record is a joke. He's been a pro for 18 years, yet has failed to rack up one win against a decent, live opponent.
If he punched as hard as we are meant to believe, he would at least have a few wins at top level. Moving to cruiserweight may seem logical, but the quality of opposition has actually gone down rather than up.

    Hide wants one name.. Huck..

He batters up Virgil Hill in sparring and thinks he is Goliath now..

Wait until he has to face a hard hitting solid young upstart..

Don't play with a cruiserweight Haye... Hide was so dangerous in 1992 but since then he has had his confidence thrashed over and over again..

1st knock.. dropped by Aussie... Craig Peterson..
2nd Knock.. dropped by Bowe several times in World championship fight..
3rd Knock.. Smashed to bits by Vitali Klitschko..
4th Knock . Upset albeit by a foul play on Jo Chingangus behalf..
5th knock was a horrible cuts defeat whilst ahead on points against Kaulikauskas... He has never gotten back on course properly since any of those setbacks.. He remains gunshy...

Hide is a huge puncher but he will have to be a mandatory before he gets a title shot, what promoter in there right mind would put there guy in with Hide.

Plus he cannot fight in England as he is wanted over criminal charges!

Can anybody name just one, decent, live opponent Hide has knocked out? Hide may have a record to suggest he is a huge puncher, but who against?

I know his record is weak. Best win? er, Michael Bent. A very old version of Tony Tucker.

He does have massive power, but his record is deceptive. Everett Martin took him the distance, which kinda proves that someone with a good chin can take his overhyped power.

Having said that, he obviously carries a lot of power, and at cruiserweight I think he might be able to make it pay. His only two proper defeats were against Vitali Klitschko and Riddick Bowe, two massive and highly skilled Heavyweights. Consider that Hide was 210-215lbs and 5ft10 before judging him too harshly. He should've tried being a cruiser his whole career, he would've been a wonderful asset to the division in his mid-20's when he looked so good. He'd have easily competed against Orlin Norris, Arthur Williams, Carl Thompson, Johnny Nelson, Vassily Jirov and Juan Carlos Gomez. He may be leaving it a little bit too late now, but I hope he gets some redemption and gets to test himself at world-title level one more time. Fights with Enzo Maccarinelli, Darnell Wilson and Marco Huck are exciting propositions.

Looking back at the late 90's, through to the present day, Cruiserweight would've been an astonishing division if so many fighters hadnt bypassed it and moved to Heavy. Despite Evander Holyfield's achievements there are few other examples of succesful moves to heavyweight. Imagine if Chris Byrd, Michael Moorer and Herbie Hide had been in the mix, then add all the fighters who abandoned the division for Heavyweight; Vassily Jirov, Marcelo Dominguez, James Toney, Juan Carlos Gomez, Al Cole and David Haye were there too. You could even include fighters like Roy Jones Jnr and Bernard Hopkins, both of whom would be physically able to fight at 200lbs. Ruslan Chageav could probably make 200lbs I think. Its a real shame so many great fighters have overlooked the division and gone for the money at heavyweight. Very rarely to guys that size win in the Heavyweight division.

He's obviously grown since then, he's more like 6' 2" now.

    Hide has always been 6'2

As for his opponenets at CW... they have been cans so far no doubt. But seriously, who would want to fight a CW with a heavies punch unless you had to or the money was huge? Its funny Martin taking him the distance has been bought up... he is the only person in his entire pro career to do so. Anyone with 39 ko's from 40 wins and that can get a near peak Bowe out on his feet is a puncher and make no mistake about it.

Yeah he's a bit chinny in with the big boys, but frankly if (the old) Bowe or Vitaly nail most fighters they will hit the canvass.

To my mind he should have always fought at CW, he'd coulda made 190 no problem let alone 200.

I have just watched the Bowe fight again, and as I thought previously, at no point was Bowe "out on his feet". I know that Bowe claimed this to be the case, but in truth he was just being magnanamous towards a brave opponent.
Hide did land some good punches and once or twice Bowe looked a bit disorganised, but in reality it was pea shooter verses tank stuff. Hide's power only seems to work on lesser opponents, which is why his record is what it is. If Hide was serious about making it into the big time as a cruiser weight, he would come back to the UK and face the music regarding his "wanted" status.

I doubt Bowe would lie about it.

He was obviously exaggerating. If there was one thing Riddick Bowe was famous for, it was talking ****.
Watch the fight again. He was never out on his feet. If he was, it would be clear for all to see, as it is, I can't even tell what part of what round it was supposed to happen.
If Herbie Hide had huge power, then I will need more than the ramblings of Riddick Bowe to convince me.

Bowe said Hide was the hardest puncher he faced.

He was also about the only genuine puncher Bowe faced, but that's by the by...

The loss to Kaulikauskas was a disgrace, Hide was robbed by a poor technicality. Herbie should wallop this guy in short order (although you can never be certain with Herbie!) and continue his quest for a title belt.

He'll most likely get punched out whenever he takes on a champ or live contender, but more power to him really...he can still fight and make cash off of it, so might as well.

Riddick Bowe has a selective memory problem. He forgets what Lewis did to him in the Olympics....
