"I am the #1 welterweight in the world. If there is SOMEONE (he must emphasize this) who thinks otherwise, let him come prove it in the ring. I dont want to hear what another fighter thinks he is. I want him to come fight me and prove it!! Like my father told me, if you think you can do something, dont talk about it...JUST DO IT!" Good one ! :rofl
Superfights nowdays happen when the "market" is right. Ali followed Liston around until he got his fight....and to some degree he did the same with Frazier. Foreman use to call Ali up on the phone and ask him "When we going to fight?". Used to be You were the Champ and as John L said, "I can lick any man in the house." Floyd vs Oscar?.......can you imagine what the Hitman at his prime 154 lbs would have done to a 35 year old promoter still trying to be a boxer? Floyd needs to fight Cotto out of pride, or slink on out of town as we say down in Texas.
I dont know if insulting him would do it. The only reason it worked for Hatton is because PBF knew it would be an easy win for him. With Cotto that is not the case. From what i see from Mayweather its pretty apparent that the fight is not gonna happen unless Cotto gives a bad performance and shows he has some flaws. And i dont really see that happening. Cotto just keeps improving every fight.
I don't see that as an INSULT at all. That's general declaration . It might not work at all . . . but it's gonna put extra pressure on Floyd . . . it's either he fights him or he retires.
of course it worked for hatton...he was the smaller guy who proved that 147 wasn't his division...that's not going to work for Cotto...he stronger at 147, he the biggest threat to floyd right now and Floyd knows this...Too much of a risk for Floyd...he won't bite.
Does anyone else think that if PBF would have lost to Castillo the first time around he would have become a better fighter. I mean better as in he would not be worried about his 0 since it would not be there and would be willing to fight riskier fighters.
Yea i mean its no secret that PBF has great talent and potential to be great. Its just that he worries too much about being undefeated and has taken a less riskier path. Maybe somebody should tell him all great fighters have lost and that a loss means nothing when it comes to legacy.
There s only one thing and one thing only he has to do and thats wat he has been doing, whooping ASS! everything else will fall into place.
Here's the Larry Merchant video for everyone like me who didn't see this saturday night. http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=7751647338442634104&q=cotto+larry+merchant&total=2&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=1 Don't know if its exactly the same but I know you'll get the drift.
He needs to win this fight first, and you may be looking too far ahead depending on what happens next week. If Pac destroys or convincingly beats him, no reason for Floyd to ever bother with Cotto.
Plus, dont think it will do anything. Floyd likes to be called out by fighters he thinks/knows he can beat or who are smaller then him. Mosley called him out, Floyd has no interest. Cotto wins convincingly, Floyd will have no interest regardless of what Cotto says. Floyd is all about $$$ and minimal risk to maintain the 0, not about legacy and fighting the best out there. Everyone should know this by now. How many excuses did he put up in that interview with the RA guy for why he hasnt fought certain people? He blatanly said it was all business. Hes just a different type of fighter/business man then most would want in someone with his level of skills.
That is a wrong formula to entice Mayweather. Once you become a threat, you are out of the equation. The most chance that he could get a fight with Mayweather is if he starts fighting at 140 on a constant basis.
