"he's paid his dues"

the concensus here seems to be that fighters like martinez and juan manuel marquez have paid their dues and deserve some quick cash grab and easy cherry pick fights, or tune ups, if you wanna call it that.

well doesnt this also apply to pacquiao and mayweather? both have given a lot to the sport of boxing and certainly have earned both of their high standings. why are they held at a different standard than the next 2 p4p fighters when it cant be argued that theyve been in more wars than the 2 (well, at least manny, i guess)?

their "tuneups" are scrutinized and critized even when theyre lining up ranked fighters.

i remember jcc sr and duran taking on bums as tuneups, nobody was complaining back then.

is it because of the frequency of their fights and the fact that tuneups nowadays are ppv events?

is it fair to criticize them given the structure of the business today?

 

I think the main beef with Floyd is how little he fights. When Floyd "cherry picks", he makes sure to pluck you coming off an impressive win.

 

i think its frequency duran would fight a bum or two but that was to stay busy while training for a hall of famer

if mayweather and pacman only fight once or twice a year you dont wanna lay down ppv bucks for a **** match

 

Consumers can exercise the right to refuse sub-par products like emmanuel-Mosley. I don't understand why some people give their money to watch a lame fight and then complain about paying for it. Responsibility is also on the consumer's shoulders to research the products they're considering.

or cause these guys like floyd and pac only fight once or twice a year it becomes an event and build up you just gotta see

if manny and floyd fought more you could afford to not tune in for a bad fight

but since its only an occassion to see them it makes it more necessary

 

I know what you mean. If I was a casual fan watching emmanuel-Mosley thinking they're two exciting fighters, I would say boxing is gay after watching it and go back to football or UFC.

Why not just put that money onto the favorite instead of ordering those kind of fights?

 

all of pacquiao's fights now are like tune ups. who is a real threat to him? the same but to a lesser extent is true of mayweather.

 

if guys were more active guys like manny and floyd taking soft touches would not get crucified

 

THe difference being that fighters like JMM are always looking to fight the best fighters in their respective divisions and their tune-up fights are usually preperations for such fights ie. JMM using Diaz as a tune up to fight the best fighter in the world(again) whereas most fans perceive both Pac and Floyd as ducking each other(regardless of who's to blame).

i think cotto catches **** cause ppl think he is shot but is taking soft touches to prolong himself

I remember when Pacquiao and Mosley worked out a deal there were people saying "he should fight Berto!"......what the **** is Berto going to do? Berto's not a real challenge to Pacquiao.

The only real challenge for Mayweather or Pacquiao at welterweight is each other.

 

I think martinez has nobody that is really appealing to me at 160 . Maybe a catch weight fightwith floyd or andre ward . Although I think tje 168 guus are too big. I think manny and floyd have lots more options
