anyone that can't respect offensive dynamos and defensive wizards on the same level are not true fans. Boxing is about different styles, some people don't have the ability to be slick defensively but make up for it with being offensive beasts with big hearts, some people have the athletic ability, timing and ring iq to be great defensively....some can mix it up. I prefer fighters who combine both but appreciate all styles. Styles make fights and boxing has hundreds of them that all deserve respect. People can only work with the natural gifts they're given and some have to make up for lack of timing, athletic ability and ring iq by putting it all on the line offensively and blocking punches with their face while hoping their pressure is enough to outdo the other guys. people that only enjoy face first offensive fighters and sluggers are more less casual fans. you wanna see toe to toe there's a thing called tough man competitions where they take a couple rednecks out of the bar and throw them in a ring or cage where they beat the hell out of each other with absolutely no focus on defense....sounds more up your alley than boxing. actually mma might just be perfect for you.
Offense is an underappreciated part of the 'sweet science.' It's actually harder to create and maintain an effective offense then it is to defend yourself. People dont understand how hard it is to actually land punches in boxing.
What a BS copout. There's been plenty of skilled fighters who don't mind going toe-to-toe and those are usually the fighters who have given us the most exciting fights and create the most hardcore boxing fans. Once you have seen a skiled fighter with heart it's not hard to lose some respect for those so called defensive wizards who seem more interested in self-preservation than putting up a good fight.
dumb ass response but what I've come to expect from your troll ass. you clearly didn't read anything but the first sentence....dummy. nowhere did I say anything about a defensive fighter with no heart being better to watch than a skilled fighter with heart. reading comprehension isn't a specialty of yours. in fact i basically reinforced your second sentence ******
margocheato stop using him as your example hes slow as balls pacman didnt have to worry h saw all those punchs before they where even thrown
:happy :happy:admin:happy:rasta thank you since some of you made this pac/floyd thing which i dont believe the thread starter ever wanted but here lets put it this way floyd has been aggressive you cant say that hes never been aggressive and came forward because he has in his recent fights since hatton... he also a def wiz and ring iq is amazing .. pacman is a beast offensively ive never seen him attempt defence and i honestly believe thats because his def is very limited hes got slightly more than the basics
1) Defense is more important. Period. 2) In boxing, there's definitely more emphasis on the "not get hit" part. 3) Defense is harder to learn and master. 4) Boxing is a sport/science/discipline/craft; BRAWLING IS NOT BOXING. 5) Slugging it out, toe-to-toe, punch-for-punch, does not show who's the better boxer. 6) Beautiful defense is more exciting to watch because it is so rare. 7) If you don't appreciate defense go watch MMA or hockey fights.
atsch Please stfu. Offense is OVERRATED on this forum. Look at how badly Amir Khan got overrated because of his "hand speed".
Then why did Floyd duck him? Styles make fights. Margarito would have been on Floyd's ass ALL night. Floyd would have literally been runnin cuz he doesn't have the power to **** Margarito up like Pac did. ****, even Pac was runnin to a certain extent. If Floyd just sat in the pocket against Margarito, and didn't use his legs, I don't give a damn how good his defense is. Margarito would have ****ed him up. He has too much stamina, and he does the most damage when he's got you pinned. Styles make fights. Mayweather has incredible defense, and he's an all around complete fighter, but if you turned the tables around and made Floyd HAVE to be the aggressor to win the fight, he wouldn't look NEARLY as good defensively. That's why I used Vernon Forrest and Tommy Hearns as an example. If Floyd stayed on the outside against either of these opponents, IMO, he loses.
The one thing I agreed about in the latest issue of the RING magazine is that guys don't know how to punch anymore. There is too much of amateur style in boxing. ****, look at Cotto. Until recently, Cotto didn't even have a right hand, and this was when he was a certifiable PPV star. How the **** does a certifiable PPV star not know how to use his right hand?
Hatton had a poor defence but he was great to watch. I admire the skills of fighters with good defence but it is always good to watch offensive fighters that put everything on the line to win a fight.
The most underrated skill on ESB is AGGRESSIVE DEFENSE. The problem is, most boxers fight with an amatuer style and don't know how to utilize AGGRESSIVE DEFENSE. Bradley does, but then again, he doesn't know how to punch.
