Pull your head outta your arse you likely limey *******. Always wanna claim there's some kinda pro-American bias. I get on Ward, Wlad, Ruiz, and the myriad of other boxers who routinely employ the "clinch" to advance their cause in the ring. It disrupts the flow of the fight and warrants a point deduction. This is boxing, not hugging. Leave that to the MMA crowd.

Now I'm not saying one should never clinch, but it should not be part of one's general strategy. It's only acceptable to clinch when hurt.

Exactly. Where it is used as a SUPPLEMENT for actual boxing skills, it's okay - but when it is used excessively, ala Ruiz, to make up for the lack of boxing ability, that's where it crosses the line into cheating. A talentless palooka like Ruiz would have been Tua-ized multiple times at the world class level if he wasn't allowed to cheat.

Right on, Cotto is the man.

In simple terms, holding is nothing other than stating " I don't want to fight right now " during that moment. To me, it seems like they prefer to hold rather than to use other tools to defend themselves; whether it be because they find it easier to hold or simply don't have enough confidence in their ability to defend without holding.

Ali was master at this. I cannot think of a better boxer in the clinches.

Really now?I thought when Hatton does it-oh wait,he doesn't just hold.He holds and HITS.Getting back to it,when Hatton cheats,it's great strategy and leads to "great" victories like the one against Tszyu. When Borenard does it,it's filthy fighting.Grow the **** up.
