i would dare say holyfield, even with his penchant for carrying fighters of all caliber, good, bad or in between. when you least expect it.. here comes the bomb holyfield all-time left-hook. okay, that left-hook body shot against ruiz.. somehow cortez overuled it.. what? after ruiz was down for one minute? that's what vitali would get. maybe he would get by too?
By the time Lewis and Holyfield had faced off for the second time, in late ‘99, VK was getting ready for a bout, which would take him past the 6th round for the first time in his career. A few months after that, he’d quit against Byrd in the 9th. Yet, there are those who think VK could have beaten a seasoned warrior like Holyfield in ‘99, who had proved in this year that he was still a force to be reckoned with (this, despite the awful scoring in Lewis/Holyfield I) Even the more experienced VK of 2003 was unable to overcome the much debilitated Lewis; a bout, which represents the closest that VK would ever come to fighting an opponent of Holyfield’s caliber and, given the poor condition of Lewis, it was still some way off. So, there’s little chance that the unproven VK of ‘99 could have handled the offensive class of an on-form Holyfield. Holyfield finds this bout less difficult than he might have expected in ‘99, as he cruises to a comfortable, unanimous decision.
Thanks. I find it to be Common Sense, really - unless one is hooked into the ‘too big; too strong’ mindset...
Holy as infamous for gassing later and on who knows what. He hardly put any pressure or threw many punches vs Lewis in 1999, and would lose here. A year later he had trouble with John Ruiz. Ruiz! A year before he looked listless vs Vaugh Bean, a fighter Vitali toyed with. All the Bryd fight proved is Vitali injured could out box a faster and harder to hit opponent with a torn shoulder with a reported arm problem in his corner in round 3. To use a fight with an injury on a fight Vitali took on 2 week notice makes no sense, unless your fantasy match up in 1999 is Vitali with a torn shoulder vs. Holyfield in 1999.
