I feel sorry for Dawson in this, Hopkins mugged him of his rematch with Pascal and then pulled all these shenanigans (no proof I know but he has form). No chance he gives Dawson his rematch.
What did Dawson do in those two rounds that makes you think this? I saw a completely uneventful 5 minutes of Hopkins trying to get his range and Dawson throwing sloppy shots.
danrafaelespn Dan Rafael Just spoke to both @THEREALBHOP and @OfficialBadChad about the decision. Dawson wants a rematch, Hopkins not interested. #boxing
Firstly, he went into the fight the betting favourite. He won the first two rounds (okay the second wasn't finished due to Hopkins antics). Hopkins will be at least 6 months older. I think it fair to say, Dawson will be a pretty decent favourite should a rematch ever occur, which I doubt it will.
Yeah, I know what you're saying, I expected that was the reason. Given the fact that it's appeared Hopkins is quite wary of Chad for a long time and the 'questionable' nature of the ending I would love B-Hop to take the fight and shut Dawson, and the naysayers, up. Regardless of how boring it is
Disagree - I had the first even and Hopkins out-landed him through the fight. There was nothing in those five minutes to say Dawson had any sort of superiority. Hopkins won't give Dawson the fight. It was shaping up to be an ugly, foul-filled maul and no one wants to watch Dawson. No fans, no belts, no right to be demanding big fights. He should focus on avenging his loss to Pascal.
Sadly looks like you won't get your wish Grant. I know what you mean Dawson comes across as a drip yet somehow he's become a aggressive 'i'm from new haven Connecticut so i'm a G' attitude. Maybe feels he needed to have that edge about him to handle Hopkins dunno found it strange tbh. I think Hopkins is happy to be rid of Dawson, He's not a star doesn't draw much fan fare but is a difficult nights work. It's not sorta fight Hopkins wants at this stage. He knows for all Chad's limitations he's still a hard nights work. Hopkins likes to pick his moves, he was kinda trapped into that fight. Not saying he wouldn't of won fight btw. First two rounds meant nothing to me although i never bought into the 'Hopkins will win by miles' theory.
Hopkins would have stunk out the joint and pecked Dawson to pieces later on. Close on the cards but genuinely ugly to watch. He generally looks tetchy for a few rounds then goes to work. Is it just me who finds Dawson really hard to like?
You may well think that, I saw the opposite myself and think Dawson won the first quite comfortably and Hopkins looked a little befuddled. The judges agreed too, they gave the first to Dawson. Same with the second for me, then Bernard got injured...
His excuses after Pascal were embarrassing like Khan, He's a big baby who's had it a bit to easy inside the ring. There doesn't seem to be much personality in the guy either if any!. 'Ummmm errr you'all know.....i like to mix things up in there man. ummmm yeah just do my thing ya'know'. I can't imagine he's brightest pupil in school either, he's a bit of dinlow. Talented but being simple and thinking your smart is a recipe for disaster. That said i don't mind him as a fighter he's frustrating because when he let his hands go against Pascal he looked exciting and dangerous but Larry Merchant summed him up 'he's a fighter who opts to not get hit, then hit'.
It was a close round. But I saw no evidence of anyone taking charge. Those that do seem to all be the ones who feel Hopkins faked the injury despite medial opinion disagreeing. Boxing fans do love conspiracy theories.
The game is full of dodgy moves, dealings, it always has been, in fact it's notorious for it! It would be far more ludicrous to not question a lot of it.
