It's interesting how people keep saying Hopkins isn't racist while he only emphasizes the remark he made 3 months ago. It's a racist remark now and then. I don't care that he's racist and Joe probably doesn't give a flying **** either but that doesn't make his comment any less stupid and racist. What Bernard does however, is setting himself up for being ridiculed once he loses to Joe. I think Hopkins will win and his right hand counter or an uppercut will be the deciding factor. I'll be rooting for Joe though and I'm hoping for an embarassing beatdown.
Actually, the obligation is on him to behave. He chose not to in order to hype the fight, but people should not start going overboard with the excuses.
From what I can see, his comments didnt bother Joe in the slightest, Im not sure where he came up with that. It certainly ruffled some peoples feathers, but Calzaghe said he wasnt offended at all by it. In fact Joe said in his "Why I will beat Hopkins" article in Ring, that he wouldnt let a whiteboy beat him either, or someone who is blue, green, yellow, black, orange or multi coloured. lol @ B-hop trying to convince himself that his stupid comments got under Joes skin. Also, someone might want to tell Hopkins that he doesnt need to go on and on with that "Im from Philly man, were so hard in the projects, blah blah blah" every single time he gives an interview. Its getting tiresome now, and most people dont give a ****.
He isn't racist but his comment has a racist undertone. I know he just want to act stupid like that stuff with the flag. Basically, he doesn't care about the feelings of others. Shall we say, he has a low EQ?
I hate the comment but know that Hopkins is a mind game type fighter. Hopkins dissed the Puerto Rican flag for the same effects, slapped Winky for the same effect, there is a pattern. Surely had Calzaghe said the same? It would get blown out of proportion as well. Hopkins hasnt carried himself in the rest of his career in a racist manner so I cant hold that against him. IMO? There is no color when the bell rings and bothe men will have the opportunity to settle their differences. It seems to me it has worked, calzaghe has appeared more upset than usual and that surely is the plan.
