Hopkins is / was a strategical genius

He wanted to quit in both the Calzaghe and Dawson fight...
He has atleast 3 legit losses on his record that I seen with my own eyes...




He's a good racist fighter but don't get carried away people...

 

Imagine if Joe Calzaghe said I would never lose to a black boy he would be crucified as a racist yet Hopkins gets a pass....

Hopkins could not solve the Calzaghe puzzle, and Joe handed him his 1st irrefutable defeat in about 15 years. Hopkins even tried to get out of the fight by pulling his crybaby face :crybaby to no avail. I can only assume there is no way of beating Joe.

 

If u are sure Hopkins lost why did joe and his dad think they just robbed a bank when the scores were read out

 

Footwork is the key to beating Hopkins. Hopkins movement seems to not have diminished since his prime and it this that has allowed him to out maneuver and out smart his opponents.

But Calzaghe always had great footwork, it's his greatest asset along with his work rate. Guys like Tito, Wright and Pavlik, despite their high work rates never had the footwork to get themselves in a position to allow their work rate to be a factor.

Calzaghe was one of the few fighters who was able to cut the ring off effectively against Hopkins. Dawson and Jones were able to use their footwork to out maneuver Hopkins rather than cut the ring off against him. Footwork is the key to beating Hopkins not work rate, not power.

 

1 - the "43 year old" bit would be relevant if the person it referances wasn't Hopkins and Hopkins wasn't widely considered the worlds greatest light-heavyweight at the time and continues to be considered one of the worlds greatest light-heavyweights today, coming up to five years later. It's safe to say that Hopkins had proven and continues to prove his worth on the world stage inspite of his age so there is no reason to mark him down as a fighter of lesser quality because of it.

2 - it wasn't a "great win" in the same way that it wasn't a great fight, but it was a win over a great fighter, a great fighter that despite not being in his physical prime was still possessing of elite level skills - as proven by his very next fight.

 

a 43 year old is always lesser than when h wa prime, anyone who pretends he isn't is a fool who is arguing against basic huma biology. back to school!

 

Hopkins came up against a better fighter that night, its that simple, no matter how the Americans twist it

Hopkins has done too much after that loss for the 'past it' argument to have any credibilty too

Hopkins is a fantastic fighter, but Calzaghe was better that night.

I will also add, Calzaghe was also 'past his best' that night

I don't think Calzaghe really outthought Hopkins, but just overwhelmed him with his high output and amazing stamina. Not that many fighters can keep up with that kind of a pace, it really was one of Joe's biggest strengths.

 

Credit to Hopkins, there were times when his sneaky controversial tactics made Joe look pretty bad, slapping at air. He didn't do enough to win though.
