Hopkins is a hall of famer but Martinez is a gifted fighter, he learned boxing when he was 20 years old ( started late in Argentina, a country with no boxing tradition nor amateur program ),is too small for a middleweight and isl kicking ass regardless. I agree that Bernard would have beaten him with ease, but BHop is one of the Best Middleweights ever and is a big guy for the diviision.

Yes. Hagler won that fight. Don't sit here and tell me that a draw was fair.

Regardless, I'd prefer to take an '83 version of Hagler from the Sibson fight than the '87 version that fought Leonard.

Remind us, where is Julio Cesar Chavez on your P4P list again?

Oh I was around and quality is to much of a compliment to Joppy .The only name of signifigance before he fought Tito was an over the Hill Duran ! Eastman was a decent at best decent contender !

Your right boxing is unpredictable but considering their skill set I would put my money on Martinez ! Maybe you believed the hype of Joppy going into the Trinidad fight but I was not fooled !Maybe you were but he was who I thought he was !

Fair enough, I dont think Joppy or Eastman would beat Martinez, though I agree both are solid, Eastman being wiley and a very respectable opponent in his day, but I think Martinez is getting a little underrated there, and IMO, would win fairly decisively, but we agree to disagree.

Martinez vs the jr middles I think are good scraps all the way around to be honest, I know Id probably be in the minority on this one but I think he beats Mosley, is very competitive with Winky and id favor him to win, 50/50 with Vargas, not sure on Ike either really, but I do think he loses to Tito and Hoya. Though with Titos vulnerability and Martinez's power, Tito could find himself in some deep trouble if he wasnt careful.

    Just IMO.

What you think about Hopkins upcoming fight with Pascal?

I would love to see Nard pull it off one last time, and I think Pascal's unorthodox style gives him that chance. Nobody is better at finding weaknesses in someone's style than Hopkins and I think Pascal might give him something to work with. It all depends on what Hopkins has left in the tank.

He's not a bum not close. But you are partly right. I like Martinez a lot but you don't have to think someone is the best or the greatest or whatever to be a fan. He is getting very overrated. Williams was never that great, it was bound to happen, he's too open, he got away with it at 147 but Martinez eventually got him even though he's not a monster puncher. Cintron had the power to do it too.

Nope, he simply was not robbed. It was very close and I wouldn't have argued if Hopkins had been given the decision, but it was not a robbery.
And yes, he was old. But he was still a damn good fighter.

The point of the thread is that immediately after Hopkins beats him, he will be called a bum, even though he clearly isn't. I guess I didn't express that very well in the title.

No, he'd not have beaten Martinez easily at all.

Hopkins could not make journeymen like Robert Allen, Howard Eastman, etc. look like bums, so how would he make a fast, technically excellent, strong and well conditioned Martinez look like a bum?!
