He's been past 7 only twice & the guys he has fought have stood more or less right in front of him and been weary of his offense & not dished much back. Its easy to go 7 at your pace but when you're being made to miss, manoeuvred, hit back its going to sap your energy.
Agreed. But that isn't the entire equation here. Plenty of cavemen in the ring with less savvy than Kovalev have managed to defeat craftier boxers than Hopkins. And lets not act as though Hopkins isn't almost 50 years old now.
Against Simakov, he averaged about 90 punches a round for 7 rounds. Guys with bad stamina can't do this.
If he did I would hope he retires. Still a great fighter if he retires. If Kovalev beats him and his fans say he is Kovalevs best win it is going to be funny because BHOP is a 50 yr old but still a very unique 50 yr old. I think BHOP knows he won't come out of this looking bad no matter what while Kovalev eitheir gets discredited because of Hopkins age or is considered a bum because a 50 yr old BHOP beats him.
i'd say kovalev needs an early ko to win. no way the ref will not side with hopkins in america. no way in hell the judges give kovalev a fair shake either.
I like BHOP But I like to see him hang it up. If this happens he should be the second highest paid athlete in the world. TMT :happy
hopkins will be on the russian tour with roy after this. if we're lucky they'll take broner and garcia with them.
Hopkins is overrated? :scaredas: Kovalev, Cloud, Dawson x2, Pascal x2, Pavlik, Calzaghe and Tarver were all favourites to beat him. That is 9 fights. Kovalev is his fourteenth fight at LHW(If you dont count the fight that took place before he became a champ at MW). 4-2-1 Now next up is Kovalev.
I never saw one second of the boone smash fight. I know hops went 0/2 vs Taylor, neither those nor the boone fight mean anythinbetterg. Floyd got a 2nd vs Canelo and a split vs odh in fights that were nothing like close matches. Also I'm talking about current hops and current kov. Kov is just better all around and is going to smash hops to pieces. I'd agree, Hops in his prime, whatever the phuck that was, was the better boxer but not anymore, Not even close. Doesn't matter what the score was for the boone fight. He whipped him in the rematch if my memory serves correctly. It's not about what happened between unrelated fights. This is hops near 50 against the most dangerous fighter he will have ever stepped up against.
Dude, half the fights you just blasted about were L's with a future crushing loss vs kov. Cloud Pascal and pavlik are nothing like fighters I would be mentioning to help bump up a certain fighter. And being the favorite means ****. That just means certain meatballs think they should win the match. Yes, I strongly feel hops is very over rated. Especially on esb forums. And I have no idea what 4-2-1 was supposed to mean. Hops best wins are ww odh ww tito and a fresh from Rocky 240 lb tarver that had to crash diet something fierce just to make weight
Hopkins ain't KOing anyone. He couldn't KO Dawson in two tries for crissake. He'll need to find a way out or get Kovalev DQ'ed. He might be able to open a nasty cut on Sergy with one of his patented headbutts...then get a TKO or something like that. Otherwise, he is getting drilled.
In relation to each point above... 1. Cloud, Pascal, and Pavlik are fighters that SHOULD be used to bump up certain fighters. While flawed, Pascal is very legit and was lineal champ. Pavlik was at a 170 pound CW when Pavlik never fought at 168 so yeah, that win is highly overrated (which is why I don't make a big deal of it). Cloud isn't much but he was a top 10 LHW for years regardless. Hell, Cloud would be Kovalev's clear third best victory. 2. I do agree that being favorite is irrelevant unless we are discussing perceptions going in specifically. Because when discussing past events, we use retrospect, and the favorite would change with retrospect. Simply "being the underdog" doesn't give you bonus kudos. 3. Hopkins might be overrated on ESB, but I think his biggest detractors realize he's a HOF and worthy of the coin "legend." 4. 4-2-1 is in reference to the list of the poster you quoted. He listed all the fights at LHW that Hopkins was the underdog in. Hopkins is 4-2-1 in those fights. 5. If you are factoring in Tarver's health style choices while out of training to downgrade a Hopkins victory, then you should be jumping head over heels and dancing on a rainbow with joy going on about Hopkins being 49 years old and having done what he's done in the past few years.
Sept. 18, 2004 - W KO9, Oscar de la Hoya, 157 pound catchweight Since then, he's 10-4-1-1 with zero KO's.
