I completely agree. I wouldn't call that "ducking" though, I'd call that "business". I'm a big MMA fan, and other MMA fans complain about fighter pay the entire time, and say they should get managers etc. I always reply "Do you guys not see what's going on in boxing? People don't NEED to take fights. They all have loads of money, their managers can arrange them the easiest fights (because the managers are cowards, not the fighters)". Most of the time, a manager is afraid of a certain fight. The boxer himself is thinking "I'll fight anyone".

but that's passing the buck, isn't it? guys like felix sturm make more money fighting stiffs in Germany, and never fighting a top MW since the reign of Bernard Hopkins (when sturm 'had a belt'), and he did it consciously he did it because its worked beautifully in Germany since the 80's, so why take more risks for less money - even if it brings more adulations?

It's why I've fell out of love of boxing to be honest. This whole "exciting prospect" fighting people like 10 levels behind him to "grow". I hate it. That's why I prefer MMA now. I wish boxing could be "owned". I wish one guy was in charge of boxing and could say "You're fighting him. If not, have fun in the unemployment line". There's like 10 world title fights a year that are close on paper in boxing, and like 20 that have a clear winner before the fight takes place.
i couldn't agree with you more :good but it won't change until a federation that doesn't have a vested interest in the sport, or the outcome of fights, takes over outside of a billionaire who buys out the federations (which is what the sport needs badly), nothing will change
Yeah I only really watch the good fights now (and Pacquiao, since you can't call his next one a 'good fight'). Two guys that annoy me are Billy Joe Saunders and Chris Eubank Jr. I was watching these two guys when I was HUGE into boxing 3 years ago. I thought both could be champions. Here, 3 years later, they are still "getting experience against tough veterans who went 10 rounds against blah blah blah".
promoters like frank wa+ren get rich by that very philosophy once they get their fighters 'a belt', and at the expense of the fighter's careers by the time the fighter realizes what is happening, he also realizes his hard work in the ring has been undone by the fat cat who only wanted to feed off of him Nathan cleverly is a good example he wanted big fights, because war+en would never have matched him up with kovalev unless he pushed the envelope (we know cleverly wanted to push it because he pressured war+en into fighting in the US not one year before - which war+en would never have done on his own accord) it's a disease, but it's lucrative, so it won't stop happening
