OK, though the definition made them look bigger. But I will buy that they could have been dispropritionate, maybe the 14 1/2", just edging Tyson, in this interesting expert's link of him & . Loius: http://coxscorner.tripod.com/dempsey_louis.html But that would be around his genetic potrntial naturally if you read up on it-which unlike the rest of him he could have approached absent lifting, due to the nature of the great work they were getting. But 15 1/2", larger than the likes of a much larger man like Razor Ruddock, no.
Dempsey had very big biceps for his size, over 16"same as Sonny Liston.Dempsey was slim below the waist but big in chest and arms.
Do you happen to know the size of his fists? I saw a pic floating about with his fists held next to Liston's, and they were comparable in size.
Ah sure, trying to figure out what size a fighter was, what is true & how it impact things means we all have fetishes for these things. Those fists are not comparable to Liston's, in appearance or listed size. Dempsey was listed as up to 16 1'4" biceps, certainly big for an average guy, not impressive compared to a modern HW. Ditto for his chest. He was strong & fast, but did not carry a lot of muscle by modern standards, nor compared to say Jim Jeffries.
The instinct to advance my genetic material makes me notice such traits. Unfortunately, this particular trait was found on a lad from Nova Scotia which put me off my feed for a time.
I met Dempsey a few times, once in his restaurant in NYC, he was older but impressive looking guy tight skin and rugged facial features (Many years of soaking in brine) big fists and solid guy, looked to be about a legitimate 6'1 +, I never seen a tougher old man, although JJ Walcott was pretty scary in his 60's. Frazier was a freaky dude, wide and solid neck & head, the kind of guy you need a gun with and at least 3 bullets before you enter into a knuckle game with

Dempsey was also one of the few guys who worked the pulleys, he had incredible arm and back strength, his arms were like steel cables when he was at his best
he was not a "big" guy, he was a natural cruiser, 6´1 190 pounds in shape, end of the history, stop trying to make histories in order to make him look bigger, but dempsey was a very strong guy despite his moderate size, very muscular, strong solid frame, explosive, he was a strong guy
