I'll remember his tenure at HBO for one fighter, Andre Berto. Berto couldn't sell tickets at a venue. There wasn't that much fan interest in his career. But Haymon was able to get him a $1 million payday to fight a journeyman named Freddy Hernandez.

HBO eventually realized it couldn't match Showtime's offer to Floyd. It's a good thing, since I doubt Showtime made that much with the Alvarez fight. Floyd already gets the $30 million guarantee, in addition to PPV upsides. They probably only broke even b/c of the $10-15 million loss with the Guerrero fight.

Overall, I think Haymon is probably very good to his fighters. I don't hear a lot of guys claiming they are aggrieved by Haymon. While he gets his clients a bigger piece of the pie, the overall pie is shrinking and will only get smaller in the long run. He's the embodiment of what we've known for a long time in that boxing is truly a business and pretty much the only thing anyone in the sport cares about is enriching themselves. While it may be true in most all sports, when you highlight the ideal that money is the only object then fans get turned off.

Al Haymon is a solid business man. He knows the entertainment circuit from box office to media networks. His major is economics and he understands the mindset of those who run the world's finances.
You can only expect to see Al get more connected and more powerful in time.

Al Haymon is the kind of guy who can do what Don King and Arum couldn't. Buy and successfully run a full time boxing network.
