How did Fury's punching power change so drastically?

By Wilder not having great punch resistance to start out with.
Fury committed more a bit to his punches, but hurting Wilder does not convince me that Fury is now a real power puncher. He is a big man and any big man can hit hard, but Fury is not yet joining the ranks of Foreman, Lewis, Wlad, etc.

I reckon it was more that He caught Wilder right behind the ear.. that punch will rock just about everyone. It was open season after he landed that.
It did look like he sitting more on his punches though while walking Wilder down.

Fury simply sat down on his punches in the second fight. No dancing and fighting off his heels. Instead he fought going forward keeping Wilder moving backwards.

Good question....i struggle to believe hes always had this decent power but it took sugar hill to bring it out.

Who knows tho...just cant get my head round him going from being featherfisted....to learning a bit from sugar hill to then suddenly being a bit of a puncher. What other guys went from being feather fisted to a bit of a puncher.

Guys like mallinaggi and huey fury must be kicking themselves thinking they just needed a bit of knowledge to become decent punchers.

Fair enough people are saying its cause hes more aggresive now going forward etc. But all these years in the gym...sparring...all the people that have worked with tyson...and no one realised he could properly punch and he,d maybe be a better fighter fighting more aggresively. I thought half the reason he boxed on the back foot etc was because he couldnt really punch. Turns out no one seemed to notice he can punch when hes a bit more aggresive.

Although tbf...i think he has changed his training regimen from being totally up and down in consistancy to training religiously 6 days a week getting him stronger etc maybe has played a part.

I doubt he'll ever be an elite level single shot ko artist but I want to see what him and Sugar Hill have been working on and if what Hill says about added tnt is true.

Sitting down on his punches. Also taking his training seriously and doing a lot of strength and conditioning work which it looked like he went away from for a long time. There was a video released a couple months before the 2nd Wilder fight where Fury was in the weight room warming up with 140kg bench and 200kg deadlift like it was a toy.

Wilder has been hurt in several fights. We are not talking about Oliver McCall here. Fury always had the power to hurt him if he landed clean.

Exactly and it helped tremendously that his opponent was clueless when he took that step forward.. Fight was over within the first couple of seconds because of that one change.. It’s all in preparation you can tell Wilder’s whole camp consisted of him planning for the same style as the 1st fight and no Plan B.. I honestly think he’s more prepared for both styles now but the rematch was a straight Massacre and Breland saved his life..

Yea wilder totally thought he would get the fury from the first fight so it will be interesting to see what changes this fight. Also is it differnet for fury knowing that wilder now knows what's up? The 2nd fight he caught him off guard.

Nothing caught Wilder off guard the first time round when Fury was on the backfoot, rusty and poorly conditioned but he still couldn't take Fury out. Wilder has less idea how Fury's going to approach this fight than he did the first time, Fury's in shape and defeated Wilder last time. If Wilder was going to stand a good chance of beating Fury, he would have beaten Fury in 2018.

Just rewatched the 2nd fight and Wilder can’t fight off the backfoot at all. He would back up with hands down or wide open and in straight lines. Didn’t see the first fight but Fury must’ve figured this out so in the 2nd one when he moved forward he closed the distance knowing he might miss the first punch but land a second one with Wilder’s hands down.

Someone's power in the twelfth round is significantly less than in the first. The difference was Fury began the fight, full fresh, and throwing hard for the KO. Still took him seven rounds and multiple clean shots to get a finish, wilder was still on his feet

Therefore I see little to none improvement in punching power just a big change of tactics
