People usually say power is the last to go, but what I noticed is that his power has seriously declined Yes he got the ko, more to do with yardes gas tank, but yarde probably would have got the cleverly treatment if kov was prime
Kovalev looks like a shot fighter and he doesn’t belong at the elite level any longer. His stamina is poor, his power looks like it’s declined and he lacks durability. The other elite champions would all be able to beat him on that performance. Bivol, Gvozdyk and Beterbiev. Canelo wouldn’t have any problems at all stopping him in my view.
Moron I know what cinnamon means in spanish as I know some spanish and I know the fact that GGG beat cinnamon twice really bothers you, but I chose to play dumb and you bought it. You also know canelo would never fight kovalev in his prime and I would never blame him , coz kovalev is much bigger . Should canelo get credit if he beats 37yo kovalev? Not a lot , coz krusher is clearly a shadow of what he once was.
But it was an intentional decision by Kovalev and his trainer! It became obvious to them that Kovalev just doesn't have enough energy for that anymore (so as to be able to go the full distance at the same time).
How can you play dumb when you're already clueless? Anyways, Kovalev isnt shot completely. He's still got some ammo left in the clip, and will be dangerous early on and will obviously be the way bigger man. If Canelo wins this it's clearly a feather in his cap, like it or not.
Kova needs to change from a head hunter to a body puncher, but since he refuses inside fighting, it's going to be difficult. He's not going to have many more wins with his diminished power and speed. He did OK against a younger, undefeated and very negative fighter he would have destroyed in 3 rds in his prime. He can still give Canela a good run for her money, provided he doesn't do a GGG and conveniently forgets to throw his best shot. Knowing Canela's history of shameless corruption, that's a very big if.
He looked somewhat vulnerable and a little gunshy in terms of unleashing power shots, that's my opinion. He was boxing well but didn't seem to be prepared to unleash as much. I don't think he's as aggressive. As for the vulnerability, that has something to do with the fact we know he has been stopped now, in a way if that hadn't happened he might seem quite robust because he took a lot of shots. But it didn't look good there for a while. Maybe it seems his stamina is a problem but it was surprising how well he recovered after the bad round and seemed to have decent stamina at the end of the fight. It's hard to tell with his power because you'd have to know how much he's putting into these shots these days and he didn't seem to land too many clean RH from his ideal range. Honestly, it's hard to assess him on this performance because people aren't sure how good Yarde is either. But I would argue based on this performance Kov clearly doesn't have a glass chin, still has good skills and his jab is still excellent. I think the power is still there when he commits to it and lands.
Kovalev is definitely there for the taking, if Yarde fought the fighters he should of, sparred the right people he would have beaten Kovalev. He didn’t have the know-how when the opportunity showed itself, credit to both men including Kovalev who had to dig deep in there.
I don't think his power has declined, he just wasn't finding a home for the right hand. Fighters know to avoid it now. His power does go after the half-way point though, but that's due to poor stamina and I think that was always the case. It's just he got rid of most guys early.
