I thought he looked quite good, but a bit rusty. He'll probably be better against Cotto.

Of course it can hurt, floyd losing to cotto damages his legacy. The only way anyone has a chance of beating floyd is landing something big on him, because you ain't out boxing him that's for sure. Floyd walking down his opponents is evening the playing field for the guys he's up against. Just goes to show how gifted floyd really is.

I'm in the minority that doesn't believe a loss is the end of the world. It doesn't erase what you've achieved in the past.

At 35 years old, I don't think Floyd can dance his way to a UD like he could. He's adapting this style because his legs are older, he's reserving stamina by fighting flat footed and is probably sitting down on his punches more. What fighter age 35 has still been able to bounce on his toes for 12 rounds?

Yes his legs are older but I doubt he can't move around the ring like he use to, everyone who goes to floyd gym talks about how hard he works and how fast he is, floyd even does long distance running like he use to. Just because Roach said his legs are gone don't make it true. Floyd himself said he wants to fight in a more fan friendly style, ironically this change of view on excitement came around the time pac was being praised as the second coming of christ and the greatest thing in boxing.

I don't pay any attention to anything Roach has to say about Mayweather. This is just my interpretation, but watching him against Ortiz, I don't think he can move like he used to. I think he'd waste a lot of energy trying to as well. At 35 years old, you still have great speed in short motions, however could Floyd move like he did age 25? I don't think so. I think he's adapting this style, because yes it's more fan friendly, but it also allows him to take advantage of what he's gained his physical strength, and it allows him to reserve energy (which is reduced when you're 35 years old). Credit to him, it takes real dedication and ability to adapt the way Floyd has.

No offence, but Floyd's no idiot, if he could move like he used to, and guarantee he'd be winning these fights hand down, he would. I doubt he'd fight in a style that would start giving his opponents increased opportunities for the sake of entertainment, this is a guy who a couple of months ago was talking about the importance of self-preservation, why would he want to start taking hard shots to the head aged 35? (Like against Mosley)

I didn't think he looked at his best, but think it was down to him being more aggressive, he really looked like he wanted to stop Orti and I think he would have later on. He was missing with some right hands but when he did land they looked more powerful than usual, Victors eye was swelling up from them.

I thought he was as good as to be expected. Couldn't really see any notable bad things.

Ortiz, on the other hand, surprised me abit. His defence was ok. Made Mayweather miss more than be would have liked (no fault of Mayweather's), and I thought he done pretty well in round 4 when he surprised him with those burst of attacks.

Oh, and I agree with the poster above about Mayweather being a more flat-footed fighter to conserve energy. He's certainly not doing it for the fans.

    I give it a 6, 6.5 right with you.

Floyd just winging shots missing like he was looked very odd to me. And when he threw his "flurry" that had me scratch my head even more. He was literally just throwing punches at Ortizs glvoes without even trying to confuse Ortize by going to head and body or side stepping. He just sat in front of him swinging. So unlike Floyd. That was most definitly for the fans. Another thing is the Combos weren't fast. It's like he had to think about every punch before he threw it.

Other then that he looked pretty damn good for someone who's been off a year. I watched the fight last night twice just to give me an idea where he's at, and you just can't judge off that damn 4 round fight. Floyds reflexes and speed were all still intact which is just amazing. I gave him that low score all because of how he threw that flurry and the lack of footowork. I really wish it was longer. I'm sure after the 4rth Floyd would've had his timing down and starting tearing Ortiz apart but we never got there.

And with Ortiz fighting like the way he was, we were in for a fun night. Such a shame he had to lose his ****ing marbles like that.

im always impressed by how easy floyd makes it look. he makes it look like he s just sparring in there, always composed, in the pocket- hard to hit although he uses minimal movement, only throws when he needs to, etc. pacquiao is amazing- but when he fights- you can see he s working hard. floyd works as hard as anyone- but is so talented at what he does. he does have a preternatural gift for boxing - reading the other man- and rolling wth it fluidly.

    10 or A for Juan

8 or B for Ortiz. Floyd wasn't as accurate as usual with power shots. There were quite a few times when Floyd would be on the ropes and only defend, instead of fight off of them. He did show technical improvements by shoulder rolling and fighting in reverse against a southpaw.

    It'll be 10 on May 5th.
