how do guys such as Kirkland get over rated for a SECOND time?!

Kirkland isn't a bad fighter, but who the hell has he really beaten? Weight drained or not, he got dropped by Ishida 3 times! No mention of avenging this... Even Amir Khan just got caught with one big one, and was out (could have just been cold). Kirkland gets knocked down 3 times by a light puncher is embarrasing.
He gets knocked down in the first against Angulo, and I will give him props for getting back up, and winning, but still.... Cintron even beat Angulo! Angulo is limited as could be.
Suddenly people think Kirkland can now beat Cotto, Margarito, Canelo, Martinez, etc. He's a fun fighter, but until he proves he can win a couple fights against more journeymen such as Angulo, no way do I pick him over established/ somewhat established boxers. For gods sake... I don't even think I've ever heard anybody mention if Kirkland could actually beat Ishida in a rematch!
It's not only Kirkland. Now guys such as Cotto make a comeback to get overrated as well. I just don't understand how guys suffer embarrasing defeats, the entire ESB board jumps off there bandwagon, and within 1 good/ decent win these guys are unstoppable wrecking machines.

 

Kirkland I understand but Cotto boxed beautifully against Margarito, hes no where near his prime but if he keeps fighting like that then he will remain the number 1 in the division.

As for a comeback fight? he had his comeback against Foreman and Mayorga, not the greatest of opposition but decent enough considering Foreman was at the time WBA Champion and Mayorga . . . .well hes Mayorga.

Id love to see Cotto V Canelo next but Billy bob arum will probably screw me over and go for the Chavez fight to milk Miguel dry

 

You may be making too big a deal out of what others say here. Look, there isn't a single fighter who has not been overrate and underrated on this forum. Idiots overhype someone, and supposedly die hard fans get pissed at that fighter for having fanboys. Fans are going to do what they do, overhype their faves. And stupid fans, which this board has a lot of, will do it even more. If you don't buy into it, don't worry about it.

 

He's getting overrated because of his style and the excitement and the KOs he produces. People have a habit out of overrated guys like Kirkland it comes with the terroritory of being a big puncher who brings it.

 

He is not over rated and any good boxer still has a chance to crack that chin, I also blame his bad conditioning for the mishap that occurred against ishida. With wolfe he is back to his old self vulnerable, exciting and willing to bring the pain and receive it. He beat Angulo who many were considering one of the best of 154 so it is only normal for that to rub off on Kirkland and he is now considered one of the top and is the most likely to receive a title shot sooner rather then later.

 

Now all of a sudden Angulo is limited as could be..

Kirkland is a bit overrated but lets not diminish his opponents..

Ishida shouldn't be deminished either..
Same goes for El Perro.. Remember nobody wanted to fight im.. let along go to Mexico to do it...

 

He's underrated if anything. He has speed, power, reflexes and underrated boxing ability. His chin is still a question mark, however his poor conditioning could perhaps have been the culprit for the showing against Isida. He seems to also be the type who trusts his team and listens to advice of those around him (when it comes to boxing).

 

Kirkland is liable to getting koed, sure, but he's also capable of scoring an early KO (and really at any juncture of the fight) against anyone at 154. That makes him rightfully highly rated, IMO.

Kirkland has not beat any top level fighter IMO. I am not saying that he can't, but the verdict is still out on him being an elite level fighter?

 

Remember Lacy, Kirkland have the same style, those kind of fighter hard exiting fighters tend to get overrated, but when a good boxer outclass him , people jump out of the wagon completely and suddenly He is a joke and the fans who overrate him, are the same that mop the floor with him when He gets outclassed a la Lacy.

 

First of all you seem to be overlooking the fact that true fans of Kirkland never stopped supporting him, there are only a handful of fighters who are undefeated and most are still early in their careers, no matter how you lose a loss is a loss...

Yea he was kd three times by a non puncher but he got up the first two times and could have gotten up the third time if he had not been held down, I feel had he survived the first round the fight could have been turned around...

As far as who I favor him over, I do think he can beat some guys in the top ten, like bundrage, I think he could also beat Margarito & Trout, as for Cotto, Lara, Martinez, Canelo, I think those would be tough for him to win but i will still root for him because i like his style and his attitude....

So just because he lost one fight we should not be a fan and we should just assume anyone in the top ten can beat him, no not me ill ride with him until his career is over and i definitely favor him in a rematch against ishida, he is rated because he is one of the best 154lbers deal with it, if you don't like him bet against or don't watch him...

just cause Kirkland got smashed up does not mean he can't go on to do good things.

People still like to think Kirkland is an easy push over. He brings relentless pressure, he's in superb shape and he spreads his punches very good, despite popular belief.

I think he's a dangerous fighter. Call me crazy but I think someone like Cotto would be in serious risk of being dogged straight out by someone like Kirkland, Alvarez too.
