bit exaggerated i fink he's not elite but he is world class as when he was light welter he did beat tszyu and maussa who had world titles of decent calibre and moved up 2 beat collazo that puts him at world level but he is a far cry from elite i purposely didnt mention castillo btw
The guys he was fighting are nobody. He is exciting when he is fighting bums but when he fights the best he hits and holds.
hatton is topman! hes had 1 or 2 boring fights but who hasnt!!!!! i have 1 critism only and that is the witter situation, that fight has to be made for him to be considered number 1 at 140
:thumbsup Very well said Hatton is by far the best LW out there. Trust me, I'm english and rate Witter highly but if he fought Hatton, he'd get bullied the **** out of. Sure, Witter's a very good fighter and technically gifted but Hatton, at LW, is just just too good. The same applies to Paulie. Paulie's a very good fighter but if he gets in the ring with Hatton he'll get the **** boxed/held/wrestled/beat out of him. Hatton should unify the LW division after his tune up fight then have one last crack at Mayweather in England without Cortez. He may well lose but what more can he do? How can anyone slag him off for fighting a bigger, better Welterweight in the states with Cortez as ref? He's one of the best if not the best LW of his generation and if he's got the balls to step and fight the P4P champ then fair play. Its just a shame that there's so many negative vibes on this site. Credit where credit's due. Hatton's a world class fighter and should be respected as such
been a Hatton fan for years, I look forward to everyone of his fights and think he would beat everybodu at 140 right now. However I cant except his refusal not to fight the best challenger out there, fellow brit and WBC champ Junior Witter. When he was fighting big names like Castillo and Mayweather I could except it, but there is no excuse now.
I think he needs to prove him self against the best Junior Welterweight by unifying the title against Torres,Paulie, and Witter. He needs to fight the best in his division to prove if he's a great fight or he just a good fighter that would never make the Hall of fame. I think he makes the Hall of Fame if he beats at least Paulie and Witter to unify the titles.
Maignaggi is better than any fighters that you named. Even if it's not the greatest fights to watch it would still mean alot if Hatton proves he can beat Paulie and if you pressure Paulie he will fight just look at the Cotto fight. Hatton should be the favorite to beat Paulie but I think style makes fights and this fight can go either way.
I don't like Ricky Hatton because he wrestles too much for me. He talked all that smack about Floyd Mayweather then when the opportunity came he wreslted most of the night, got knocked into the ring post, and then had the nerve to blame the ref for not letting him fight his fight. Joe Cortez did a good job of getting on Hatton for all of the wrestling he was doing. Did Hatton even throw a combination in that fight? Those are the reasons I don't like Ricky Hatton!
No its not like dislikin Mickey Ward. Ward has been in great fights. Ricky comes forward, but then he holds and clinches for most of the fight. Some people find excessive holding and clinching very boring. He doesn't put on a show like you guys claim. Ward slugs it out with guys (Zab Judah, Emanuel Augustus, Arturo Gatti). Hatton's most recent fights? Well there was Kostya Tszyu, in which Hatton clinched, held, and cheated his way to FRUSTRATING Tszyu into quitting. Maussa - same old stuff, even thoug hit ended in a TKO it was still boring Collazo - Hatton tries to rough up Collazo and gets beat down in the process. This fight had a knock down but it was still boring. Juan Urango - Hatton tries to box a bit in this one, but resorts to his usual game of holding and hitting in the clinch Castillo - The only fight I have seen of Hatton's that wasn't boring. But whats interesting about this fight, is Hatton didn't even NEED to 'hold and hit', because the fight didn't go long enough for him to have to resort to those tactics And as for the Mayweather fight, Hatton TRIED to use his usual tactics, but when he SPRINTED towards Mayweather to get on the inside he got knocked out (Which is what would have happened if he fought a Tszyu or Castillo that weren't shot or just not caring) And your comparison to Corrales Castillo is SHAMEFUL. Absolutely TERRIBLE. Why do Ricky Hatton fans think what Hatton does is inside fighting? Its NOT. Hatton is a terrible in fighter. All he can do is maul and pressure and try to impose his strength on people. Corrales Castillo is inside fighting. What is so unreasonable about what I'm saying? You not agreeing with me is not the same thing as me being unreasonable btw. And for whoever said Hatton fights on the inside and he shouldn't be blamed for that. You as I said earlier don't know what in fighting is. Inside fighting is fighting so close that you have to put your head on your opponents shoulder just to have room for it. You can still fight like this (throwing real punches with both hands) if you know what you're doing. Hatton does not. When Hatton gets this close he HOLDS. I know those other guys weren't real top notch opposition, I was talking about how the thread starter kept talking about how exciting Hatton was. The exciting Hatton was awhile ago, against a different caliber of fighters.
How or do you mean why? Diversity mate . . . diversity. People will always have different opinions and nobody can please everybody. No matter how good your idol fighter is . . . no matter how humble he is . . . there will always be naysayers and detractors . . . you just have to live with it. :yep What is there to hate in Cotto or Mosley? And it goes on . . .
Its just the way things go in life. Ricky would be an absolute hero if he had beaten floyd, but he didnt, and when that happens all the little problems that people had with rickys style (of late) and his boasts before the fight make him look like he was literally punching above his weight. I was at the collazo fight and in my veiw he didnt do enough to take the title off the champ. I was also at the castillo fight and it was the strength of ricky that beat a castillo that i feel looked old. Having said all that i believe ricky needs forget about DLH and Mayweather at least fro the time being. He also needs to stop friggen pigging out like a slob between fights. He spends training camp getting in shape when he should be spending it improving his boxing skills, because as he got older he began to neglect this area, sounds daft, but thats why we now see hug and hold so much. He needs to prove himself again at LWW. Its a good idea fighting lazcano to warm up. Then fight Witter and shut him up. Witter is good fighter this is true, but ricky (in case all have forgotten) is still the ring LWW champ and he was a monster a LWW. It remains to be seen if he can regain his crown. If he can... mark my words. He will be a hero again.
