Im not sure about JT's mental right now. I think he questions himself right now and thats never good before a big fight like this. He will fight on his toes all night long and Pavlik is gonna get him againts the ropes and knock him out....again. Pavlik TKO 6.
As of today I pick Pavlik by sooner stoppage than before. Taylor can train to make the changes necassary to compete, but once he's in the ring, he'll revert to his old ways. I would be surprised and very impressed if Taylor can make the adjustments in the ring for 12 rounds. Then there's the stamina issue. He just does not seem to have natural boxing stamina no matter how hard he trains, and I doubt it's attributable to weght draining. Pavlik on the other hand, seems to have the mental makeup to learn from the first fight and make subtle adjustments to improve his performance, plus a big stamina advantage.
Forgot to mention Pavs. cuts. He will either be 100% or he must postpone the fight till he's ready. If he loses this fight, I will not accept his cut hands as an excuse. By the way, anyone know how his hands are doing?
All the hull-a-balloo about Kelly's cuts was just internet, and media exageration. He only had 22 stitches, and there were no cut tendons or muscles. That injury will not be a factor. Frankly, I'm surprised how much support Taylor still gets. Before the first fight I could understand fans thinking JT was gonna walk through Kelly. Many people had only seen the Miranda fight, so they were not really to familiar with Pavlik. Now it's a different story. The first fight was exciting, but for those of us who have been watching Kelly for several fights the outcome was a foregone conclusion. Kelly started to really take control in the 3rd round. A couple of the following rounds were close, and fun as hell to watch, but it was easy to see where Kelly was going with the fight. Jab-Jab, Right hand, Left hook. Lead Right, Jab-Jab. Just as Jack Leow told Pav after (I think) round 4; This is a basic ****in' fight. jab, jab, right hand; simple!" That was all Kelly needed to defeat Taylor by TKO in the first fight. I don't see the 2nd fight being much different, except Pavlik won't clown JT, so there won't be in round two type debacle. That means this fight will end in 5-6 rounds instead of 7. Boo
I think Taylor is making a big mistake by not taking a tune up fight first. The fight may go the distance, but I don't see him coming out of this with the win.
I'm not sure what Taylor could do different than the last time.Whats the key to a Taylor victory? More aggresiveness? Kelly will hit him on the way in, and out.Use the jab more? Pavlicks jab is rangier and harder.Put pressure on Pavlick? Kellys proven against Miranda and Taylor that he handles pressure very well. I don't think Taylor can beat Pavlick in a month of Sundays.Pavlick ko7.
JT when pressured goes straight back until he hits the ropes and then tries to fight his way off the ropes. I think the same thing will happen in the rematch JT will back straight up and Kelly will tag him with a straight right again 7th or 8th round KO
It was really 22 stitches... I don't know who started the 110 stitch rumor. Might have been Pavlik's trainer.
Taylor by UD or even late KO. Taylor has superior skills than Pavlik. He was winning the fight until he got caught and I don't think he will make the same mistake again. I feel he will outbox Pavlik over the first half of the fight and slowly break him down. I won't completely write off Pavlik though as he may well be able to catch and hurt Taylor again.
His conditioning is the key to the whole fight. If he is able to conserve his punches and use his jab to keep Kelly off him, he will be in great shape. If he look likes he is out of gas before the 6th round, he going to lose.
I picked Taylor on the first fight but called it right. I said if Pav survive JT's initial onslaught and can continue to exert his pressure and back up taylor . . . he'll win. So it happened. HERE . . . Taylor is in more disadvantage because of the psychological effect of facing the guy who KOed him. But I guess he learned a lot from that fight and will be more motivated and comfortable with his trainer. Taylor by UD.
