This is the shot I was talking about.

1.37...very similar to the Hatton KO.

I think he's just got a different kind of chin. He's easily knocked off his legs, but he can take and give back solid shots consistently; it's almost always one or the other. He's rarely stunned badly or doing a dance before he gets knocked down, so its not from punishment-I just think the right shot will take his legs and balance out from under him, but not really rattle his brain too much to the point that he's disoriented.

I don't think there's anything wrong with his chin - he's been down off shots, but never really appears hurt. A lot of the knock downs are from hooks (Katsidis, FMJ etc) where not just the power but the momentum of the shot helps knock him off balance - he seems fine when he gets back up. This is obviously not comparable to taking a single shot on the chin that ****s your legs, balance and awareness up.

If anything this probably helps to an extent - instead of taking a shot which slightly dazes you but leaves you standing to receive a further barrage of punches, he's taken a decent shot and then gone down - givimg him a bit of time to clear his head.

There are very few fighters in the history of the sport that can counterpunch with the fluidity and snap that come out of Marquez' combinations......

When you counter with that type of aggressivenes, thats also leaving you with the vulnerability to get timed and countered back......thus Marquez' susceptibility to get knocked down.

Most boxers that fight off the backfoot looking for opponents to open up and make a mistake, usually do so cautiously while having defense as their number one priority.
Mayweather and a safety first fighter like Bernard Hopkins come to mind.........

Who throws the most beautiful combinations in the sport?
Thats right, Marquez and by a landslide. I dont see another fighter out there currently that even comes close.

You cant let those types of combinations flow if you're safety concious and afraid to get tapped on that chin.

A fighter with less than a solid chin would be very leary of letting his punches flow the way Marquez does.

The fact that Marquez just lets his combinations flow and does it with power behind it, is an indicator that his chin is well above average, in fact its solid.

Most fighters that have bad chins are'nt categorized as such because they get knocked down......
.....a truer indicator that a fighter has a bad chin is one that is often on wobbly legs whenever he gets hit with a solid shot.
.....for example, the last couple of rounds by Khan vs Maidana. Khan had the heart to stay on his feet, but his legs would'nt carry him where he wanted to be. His legs were unstable (jelly legged) and all over the place.

There is absolutely no way a below average chin survives the fists of Manny Pacroid.

if it was below average, he wouldn't be able to recover, period.

You don't go 24 round withs Pacquiao with most of them being high-paced while having an average chin. He's susceptible to being dropped by punchers but he shows no signs of being seriously hurt afterwards. He's pretty focused after getting hurt and doesn't panic so that helps too.
