Yup and you can say that because you have probably seen all his fights. A prime oscar was good in every category imaginable.
Good, not great. Ran like a theif against Tito, got a gift against Sweet Pea. Couldn't beat Mosley in a month of Sundays. He was powerful at 135, but lost steam with every weight jump.
He was a great fighter and he sought out tough challenges and tested himself like great fighters do. The one think I think people often forget about Oscar is that he fought the best but he was also in some great fights. He was ppv king not jut for his looks, he was a warrior who was exciting to watch because he could punch and he could smell blood. The Oscar of pre 2005 was as good as anyone because he was such a fierce competitor.
Speaking of him as a fighter only, I wish there was someone like him today. Some fighters are rated higher but Oscar fought everyone and sure he's got some aged greats on his resume but everyone else is prime or undefeated when he faced them. Oscar is a great but he's an atg where its not written in black and white, there's footnotes to look up.
****ed up against Tito - No doubt but was techncally superior Couldn't beat Mosley in a month of Sundays? He schooled him in the rematch and made Shane look like an idiot Lost steam with EVERY weight jump? He was lethal at 140lbs despite only three fights in that weight class. Was a punch away from STOPPING Quartey at 147lbs. Stopped Carr at 147lbs. Stopped Vargas at 154lbs. Stopped Mayorga at 154lbs. He did okay!
he beat Trinidad, he was robbed for the anti-climactic ending...he should have never been in the ring with Hopkins who was too big for someone oscars size...mosley fights could have gone either way...gave a tough fight to a prime Mayweather....only legit loss was against Pac who he drained himself for
IMO the weight played into how close the fight was. He never fought at 154 before that bought. Prime for prime I think Floyd beats Oscar and Manny does as well.
Even so, thinking about it, just the fact that he could fight a close fight with any middleweight as good as Sturm being a guy who won his first title weighing 128 pounds is very immpressive. I had the fight a draw, but reguardless not a lot of fighters could come up that much with any sucess. And he did hold his own against Hopkins. People also forget his dominant win over a very good Javier Castillejo the man who would give Sturm his first real loss.
Very highly. The dude is insanely underrated today, I don't know why. It seems people hold his last losses much harder against him than againt Roy for example, but 1) he easily fought the much better opposition and 2) he beat several elite names with some debated decisions on both ends. DLH has a spectacular resume, most just don't realize he actually had a highly successful career pre-Tito.
