No its not a great win for me for the very same facts you stated. GSP was half the person and still won 4-1 and arguably 5-0. It was a great testament to GSP from performing at this level after a lay off but it wasnt in his top 5 best performance.

And also I have alot of respect for Condit, the guy is a family man but He is a fighter in the same mold as a Martin Kampmann. Good all around but not great at one thing but with a tremendous will.

A fantastic win considering the 19 month lay off, It goes to show what a great fighter he is. Ranking wise I feel It is Top 3 No. 3 in fact as I would have the Serra & Hughes re-matches 1 & 2 mainly because of the mental aspects of those re-matches.

 

Surviving the kd was huge. To show he can be hurt and come back. You are lying if there wasn't a sense of deja vu.

 

Oh yeah, when that happened I was about one minute removed from saying to my mate "I have never seen GSP get badly hurt and recover, I've only seen him knocked down one time and he was KOed right after."

Less than two minutes later that kick lands, GSP collapses and four guys are screaming "Oh ****!" And it's not like Condit doesn't know how to finish.

Maybe he's been hurt like that and come back before, but not in any fights I've seen. Only time I've seen him really shaken was Serra 1, and so that was a question mark that I had about him. He answered it. :good

I was really impressed because to me it looked like GSP had never been away. He was the aggressor right from the start, in fact he had more conviction in his striking than I've seen from him in his last few fights. :conf

I had the impression that if GSP fought like he was faded or not in top form, Condit would have put him through the wringer. But GSP came out with great intensity and authority. I viewed the relative domination as being more about GSP being just that good, rather than Condit just being not that good. I agree with you, I find it difficult to see how anyone would not respect Carlos. :good

Great win. Up there with Hughes and Fitch. I was very impressed with this performance

 

If you take into account the lay off and injury you have to rate it as one of his best wins. Straight back in with Condit for all the marbles with no tune up fight and he overcame a headkick. Pretty impressive all in all.

I definately put it in his top 3. Yes, the KO's are always the flashiest, but opponent skill etc. it was one of his toughest fights.

2 of the 3 judges had GSP winning all 5 rounds. I thought that round could have gone either way because the KD was early in the round and then GSP dominated the rest.

Hendricks will be a VERY interesting fight and will largely be decided on who has the better wrestling, because GSP is smart enough not to stand around and box him. Both are good wrestlers also, so it should be good.

I think GSP's inability to finish is due more to the quality and caliber of his opponent's than lack of skill on GSP's part.

 

This is the beauty of the WW division. Keeps producing top rate contenders that make for great match ups. That GSP manages to dominate high class dangerous opponents so much speaks volumes for him

 

Hendricks is another intriguing bout given the wrestling and huge risk standing.

GSP no longer needs Silva, the fights not what it was. Dana wants it to happen now and it'll sell to all the mainstream and it looks like GSP will be compelled to take it.

 

I'd rather see GSP fight hendricks and I hope that's Dana sets up too.

I agree with him, especially the bolded part. Silva is just a MUCH bigger guy. He has a bigger frame that easily carries more weight. Although I don't see Anderson putting on 50 pounds after the weigh-in, there's no doubt that he'll be much, much bigger in the cage. At 6'2" he's much taller as well. If GSP gets in there and he can't get the takedown, which is likely, then he is just going to catch a terrible beating. Simple as that. And even if he does manage to get Silva down, can he hold him down for 5 rounds? Highly unlikely. Can he finish him on the ground? Even less likely.

All told, I see that fight as being too far in Silva's favour because of the size difference. I'd rather GSP fight Hendricks, and if Silva wants to fight another champion he should go for Jones. At least the size difference there isn't so enormous, and Silva is certainly capable of lighting Jones up in the standup.
