1) I really like Cotto, and cannot understand anyone that dislikes him. I drove 7 hours to watch his last bout. 2) He wont cherrypick and he has stated that he has no plans to- only to fight the big fights b/c he doesnt want to fight past 30. Sure boxers always say that, but Miguel seems like once he sets his mind to something he does it. 3) I think Margo match up is intriguing but the thought of Margo getting 2 big paydays after being caught cheating makes me gag. 4) I think the big effect Steward will have is that Miguel will actually HAVE a trainer. To think this guy was just training himself, for the most part, is really a testament to his ring IQ and poise. Thats just incredible. Steward himself to me is a one-dimensional trainer, and Cotto isnt that dimension.
yea he looks alot stronger at 154 than at 147. i wouldn't bet against him against anyone at 154, except maybe Angulo or Martinez.
Cotto's an entertaining fighter who, over the years, has been willing to take on all comers and so I have great respect for him. He has been and will continue to be one of my faves. IMO, despite the brutal loses, he's still capable of beating any ww, outside of Pac, and any jmw, outside of Martinez.
I think it would be a close fight. Cintron kinda laid the blueprint to beat Angulo, but Angulo is different, more aggressive fighter now. It would be hard fight for Cotto despite him having the faster hands and better skills. It's a 50-50 fight. Williams ko'd a middleweight bum. Cotto is not a bum. If he fights using angles like he did with Mosley, Cotto can easily pull off another Quintana. Neither Cotto nor Williams are really one punch ko artists, so it would be a war and go into the late rounds.
Capable, yes. Do I think he would, probably not. Most likely outcome is FM winning on the cards but I could envision Cotto landing something significant and I wonder how he would respond if he indeed had Floyd hurt.
