How does Andre Ward stack up against past greats H2H?

Joe is not a great fighter and is not on Wards level.

 

I really didn't, easy though that is to do until he beat Kessler in his last fight.

not an atg. the only genuine atg of smw remains the mercurial jones. joe, ottke and toney are merely hof/hof candidates

 

I think Ward is in a weak era. He has not beaten one top prime undefeated fighter or one top prime fighter at that and hasnt faced many different styles in my opinion.
I cant imagine Ward beating any of the top SMWs of yesteryear, but in this era I dont think its overly strong. I dont think Froch would beat many of yesteryear either.

 

I would favour various different styles to beat Ward and think Eubank, Collins, Calzaghe, Ottke, Benn would be clear winners against Ward.
Certain other fighters like Jones, prime Kessler, maybe Toney I wouldnt bet against

 

of course as the smw division continues to grow in stature we will see what atgs it will add to jones.

but for now for h2h atg matchups for andre we need to look at the much bigger mw and lhw divisions.

 

I had high hopes for Ward too he looked to be the real deal but then that went to ****. I hope he recovers though he has the skills. If anyone thinks he is greater than Calzaghe they are out of their mind.

Let me add he could comeback beat a lot of world class opponents and build a greater resume than Calzaghe but H2H he loses.

Badly. In the last two years he has had one fight, Edwin Rodriguez. (who?:huh)

We literally have no idea how good he is at this point. Inactivity could have destroyed him for all we know.

and Jones was on roids

I'm sorry but any fighter who pops for roids should have their record erased. You don't know how long they were using. All of his wins are tainted.

 

Probably only a couple fighters at their best ever at 168 who I would pick over any version of Andre Ward at the weight we have seen.

He's beaten very good fighters, but just alil short of great. He does have a habit of eating right hands tho. But he is pretty good at cutting the ring off and neutralizing an opponents offense. Very smart pressure too. This generations 168lbers are good, but absolutely no freakin way stack up to the last generations with the likes of Roy Jones, Toney, Benn, McClellan, Eubank, or more recently with Calzaghe or even Michaelchewski at 175. All those guys are locks to the hof and some are atgs. Ward would of really been tested in that era. To be honest, it might of been a whole different ball game if he fought Dawson acouple yrs earlier at 175 when he took on Adamek.
